2007-10-01: Happiness and joy

I would like to cordially invite the universe to bite me.

On the good side, however, I'm healthy, I have Wednesday off, and I'm going to buy a PSP. Also, it's only two weeks to vacation. As a friend would say, it's all first-world problems.

Note to self: in the future, flatly refuse to ever again work on a project that doesn't have a project manager.

2007-10-02: Retail therapy

I now own a PSP and Jeanne d'Arc. I struck out on the other games that I wanted, but I have a friend who's going to loan me some, and then I may poke around and see if I can find other things that I want.

I haven't really done anything with it yet since tonight was also cards night. Contract rummy is even more fun with three decks and five players, and also a lot more dangerous. The set contracts are actually interesting to play and have additional strategic possibilities.

Since I worked 68 hours last week, tomorrow is a rest day. I expect I'll start playing with the PSP, once I'm awake enough to read the basic care instructions and not break it right off.

Plus, maybe some strategic catching up with Debian work. We'll see.

2007-10-08: wallet 0.2

I wasn't going to make an initial release of the wallet system for secure credential management until after I'd finished all of the initial feature list and it could replace leland_srvtab, but some folks at Stanford wanted to get a preview and start planning test suites. So Friday and today I went through the work of writing basic documentation and updating the web site and today I put out an alpha release.

This is the system that we're going to use for managing all secure key material at Stanford: Kerberos keytabs, ssh private keys, certificate keys, database passwords, and so forth. This initial alpha release has a bunch of limitations in the build system and configuration infrastructure and has only been tested with SQLite 3, so it's not suitable for production. But it should provide a good look at the basic design.

You can get the initial alpha release from the wallet distribution page.

2007-10-14: lintian 1.23.35

This was the big thing that I felt like I *had* to get done before I went on vacation, and it's done. I was massively behind on lintian bugs, and now I'm mostly caught up and hopefully have killed the worst of the desktop false positives.

There's still a lot to do, and lintian is still over 100 bugs again, but the rest can probably wait.

Debian Policy is of course still a mess, but that's probably not something I'm going to successfully tackle before I disappear on vacation for a bit.
