FAIELLA

Non-Player Character

Lir's daughter and Oberon's Queen, Faiella was a central feature in Amber. Mother of Eric, Corwin, Darthene, and Deirdre, she was, in some ways, the focus of their young lives, the sun about which they orbited. Her legacy lives on in them, after her murder by an agent of Moins and, perhaps, others. Suspicion about who might have spurred Moins on varies, some saying Clarissa, others saying Oberon.

Faiella was raised a princess of Rebma, a woman who studied and peered into areas not well known, the original alchemist. She also enjoyed the company of others, was an excellent dancer and cook, and kept an ear to the ground. Prince Benedict recalls that she always knew the rumors that would fly in Castle Amber and do her best to squash them, and her brother Madoc recalls her studies and her loves.

Her marriage to Oberon was an arranged marriage, not a marriage of love. Oberon loved her children more than he loved her, and she had to know this. According to some reports, the marriage was the result of Oberon's rape of Faiella proving to be the conception of Eric.

As a mother, her reputation is mixed. Some of her children think she was an abusive mother or will not speak of her at all, others remember her fondly even though she was not perfect. It is possible that her flaws as a mother were not unintentional at all, that she set her children to bickering amongst themselves as a subtle revenge upon Oberon who kept her in her gilded cage.

Oberon had, by some reports, feared her potential ability as an alchemist, fearing what she could create. Perhaps he was right to, or perhaps he created the seeds of what was to come by his treatment of her. Whichever the case, she was an expert at producing compounds to suit her desires. Her crowning achievements were the discovery of a philtre of love, a gunpowder that worked in Amber, and a universal antidote, which when combined in the right proportions and conditions would create the holy grail of all alchemists, the Philosopher's Stone. The Stone would allow it's wielder to transmute any substance to any other substance. A flawed Stone, made in the wrong conditions or with the wrong amounts of ingredients, would be capable of destroying whole Shadows when used.

After her murder, her soul was reincarnated in Celia's daughter Vialle. Her memories and personality are buried, but can be reached if the reacher knows how....
