A recent article at Salon notes that requiring everyone to use the same software (an increasingly common trend in corporations) increases vulnerability to viruses, like Melissa. It also points out that Melissa would be less of a problem if Microsoft had put in adequate security. (Any system that allows a word-processing document to send email messages in your name without you knowing it's happening... well, it's got some problems.)
