Ronald C. Menendez, of Chatham, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, August 11, 2010.

Ron is survived by his wife Catherine, son David, daughter Ellen (Bob Schell), and grand-daughters Hannah and Kate, all of Chatham, NJ; his mother Carmela, sister Joanne (Gina), brother Rick and Aunt Kay of St Louis, MO. Son of the late Manuel Menendez, beloved nephew, cousin, uncle, brother-in-law; mentor, colleague and friend to many.

Ron received his Bachelor’s in physics from Washington University in St Louis and his Master’s and Doctoral degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois - Urbana. He was a research scientist for 33 years at Telcordia, formerly Bell Labs, most recently working in fiber-optic telecommunications.

He was a long-time and active member of the Unitarian Church in Summit, serving for many years as a youth advisor and teacher. He served on the Board of Trustees, several ministerial search committees and various fundraising endeavors.

A private internment has been held. There will be a memorial service on Sat. August 28 at 1pm at The Unitarian Church in Summit, NJ. A second memorial service will be held on Sat., September 18 at 1pm at St Mark’s Episcopal Church in St Louis, MO. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee.
