Kid Mysticism & The Net.Titans #27 "Discovery" GAME, SET AND MATCH Part 1 By Ben Rawluk ______________________________________________________________________________ Cover: A silohetted figure holding up his fist, which glows with strange power. Floating near him is a chessboard. ______________________________________________________________________________ Kid Mysticism was bored. He was stuck on LNH Monitor Duty. He had his feet up on the control computer, and was fiddling with his Flight-Ring.Thingee. "Spellfire?" he finally asked, awaiting an answer from his Astral Friend. *Ya, Boss?* A voice projected, and was encompanied by a small flaming being, only 6-inches tall. "I was thinking....what's my power source in this Looniverse?" Kid Mysticism said, abruptly. He looked at Spellfire, and seemed to be awaiting for an answer. *Your...power source??* "Yes. In my home Looniverse, I was powered by Earth-B's Mystic Vulcans.." Kid Mysticism explained. "However, Earth-B is no more." [Naturally, KM isn't aware that Earth-B was recreated - BR] Kid Mysticism glanced again to Spellfire. "So, tell me who you are, and what my power source. After all, mere cosmetic spells and giving up immortality to be fully human, one does not usually gain an Astral Guide." * Uh-Oh... * Spellfire muttered. *Very...very well...I was assigned to you to keep an eye on you for my master...your power source...* "Who is he??" Kid Mysticism demanded. HE IS ME. The Room suddenly warped and shifted as the new voice spoke. Reality seemed more chaotic now, to match said voice. "Lord MUD?!!" Kid Mysticism exclaimed, and instinctively activated a Mystical Shield. I AM NOT HERE TO HARM YOU. QUITE THE OPPOSITE. Lord MUD announced. Master Workload had also appeared, but seemed to be in the middle of something. I MUST ADMIT, YOU HAVE BEEN AN EXCELLENT CHAMPION...YOUR ADVENTURES ARE FUN TO WATCH. "You..You're the one powering me...why?" SIMPLE, REALLY. FUN. I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE FUN TO HAVE A CHAMPION ALL TO MYSELF. IT IS. "Well...gee...I guess...how do I know you haven't been like... manipulating me all these months. I WASN'T MANIPULATING YOU. USUALLY JUST GIVING YOU A NUDGE IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION...FREE WILL IS SO MUCH MORE ENTERTAINING. "Erm...right...what was the purpose of Spellfire?" Kid Mysticism asked, finally, and no longer feeling threatened, disolved the shield. HIM? JUST SOMEONE TO USE TO WATCH EVENTS WITH. HE IS INDEED YOUR FRIEND. "Oh..ok..." Kid Mysticism glanced around, to see Spellfire run and hide inside his mind. NOW, IS THAT ALL? I FIND EXPOSITION GETS BORING AFTER A WHILE...AND WHEN THINGS ARE BORING, I LEAVE. GOOD BYE, CHAMPION. Lord MUD, and Master Workload suddenly vanished in a bright flash. "Gee...well...Cool." Kid Mysticism muttered, and somewhat taken aback, slowly returned to monitoring the screens. _Browsing Boy's Quarters_ "Computer, locate Lurker Lad." Browsing Boy asked the Control Panel, hopefully. He needed to talk to his fellow LNHer and Net.Titan, about some files he found. `*Breep*...Lurker Lad, Affliation: LNH, Net.Titans, unable to locate. Either Not existing in Time-Continuum due to Retconning, or not logged in to the LNH System.' The Computer Breeped. "That's...impossible." Browsing Boy mumbled, and switched the panel to keyboard control. Sitting down at his desk console, he began to type. User Login: Browsing Boy PassWord: Linguist <<Hello browsingboy@lnh.system.com>> <<Please Enter Request>> >Locate Lurker Lad <<Results: LNHer/Net.Titan Lurker Lad not found.>> "$^&%(_...." Browsing Boy mumbled, and logged off the system. Suddenly, the room was filled with a new voice. "Help...me..." Lurker Lad coughed, as he slowly materialized. The LNHer fell to the floor. "Lurker Lad?!!" Browsing Boy gasped, and ran over to his teammate. _Elsewhere, in one of those conviently darkened Backgrounds_ "The Game is running on course, Sir?" The tallish, henchman-type asked. "Yes, of course. Why wouldn't it?" The Shadowy Figure replied. "Kid Mysticism has discovered his power source, as I planned." He paused for a moment, as he placed a figure shaped like Kid Mysticism onto the floating Chessboard before him. "My Opponent's pawn has taken out Lurker Lad." he paused again, and picked up the Lurker Lad figure which had already been on board. He held it in his fist, and increased the pressure. The sight of the figure shattering took up a whole three panels. "However, in doing so he has allowed me to engage Browsing Boy into the game." He fell silent, and placed a Browsing Boy figure on the board. "Sir?" "Game, set, and match, my Good man." The Shadowy Figure laughed. ****************************************************************************** Next Issue: What in the world happened to Lurker Lad?
