Mason and Rick do not review episodes they're affiliated with and anyone can choose to abstain from any review. I still write the capsules. Story type scale: 1: Full-tilt wacko 2: Generally humorous with serious elements 3: Equal balance of seriousness and humor 4: Generally serious with humorous elements 5: Lethal serious, perhaps with flashes of humor Rating scale: 0: Abysmal (As bad as it gets.) 1: Very Bad (Thoroughly wretched, few life signs.) 2: Bad (Still thoroughly bad, but less so.) 3: Very Poor (Might have potential, but needs a lot of work.) 4: Poor (_Does_ have potential, but needs work.) 5: Mediocre ("Eh." Okay, not bad, but not good either.) 6: Good (Genuinely good read. Basic Superguyage.) 7: Very Good (High basic Superguyage. The difference between 6 and 7 is fairly slim.) 8: Excellent (Very high quality writing.) 9: Exceptional (Really excellent, even for Superguy. Can have no serious flaws.) 10: Perfect (The kind of thing that leaves you sitting there in front of the screen going "whoa...." for a while. These are VERY, VERY RARE.) These reviews will be somewhat shorter than usual. Bear with me as I try to catch up on my backlog. /// SENTRIES #5 (Jon Robertson) /// This series is getting to be a lot of fun, _very_ quickly. Sentries #5: Type 4, 5.75 cliched speeches Matt: 6 Mason: 7 Rick: 5 Jon: 5 /// MARIE #18 (Jesse Taylor) /// Always nice to see Carl Macek getting treated with the respect he deserves. The episode is hilarious as always. __ Marie #18: Type 2, 7.33 mistimed mouth movements Matt: 7 Mason: 8 Jon: 7 /// TEAM M.E.C.H.A. JOURNAL #5 (Chris Meadows) /// A whole lot of talking, basically. A good read, though, and a _lot_ of loose ends that needed tying up very badly are getting it. Team M.E.C.H.A. Journal #5: Type 4, 7.00 rolling holographic projectors Matt: 7 Rick: 7 Jon: 7 /// SENTRIES #6 (Jon Robertson) /// Rock solid action issue. I'd call this the 'breakthrough' issue: with it, Sentries goes on my "read now" list instead of my "let sit in mailbox" list. Sentries #6: Type 3, 6.25 animated action figures Matt: 6 Mason: 7 Rick: 6 Jon: 6 /// HERO PATROL #18 (Mike Escutia) /// Great parody of Murder, She Wrote, and Jon Perceptor just gets more and more likeable. Hero Patrol #18: Type 3, 8.00 immortal TV shows Matt: 8 Mason: 8 Rick: 8 /// JACKSON SIX #2 (Roger Christman) /// A bit more humor in the form of fourth-wall tricks, and one of the most genuinely different stories to appear on Superguy in awhile. I'm quite curious where this is going. Jackson Six #2: Type 4, 7.00 slow-motion telegraphed karate kicks Matt: 7 Mason: 7 Jon: 7 /// SENTRIES #7 (Jon Robertson) /// Wouldn't we _all_ love to do this to a used car dealer? Genuinely funny. This series is still improving. Sentries #7: Type 2, 6.50 Fine Pre-Owned Automobiles Matt: 7 Mason: 7 Rick: 6 Jon: 6 /// TEAM M.E.C.H.A. #60 (Chris Meadows, Jesse Taylor, David Van Domelen) /// And the Grand Tour begins. Nicely handled prelude, good characterization, good setup. Looking forward to the start of the main body of the crossover. MORBID: HEAVY METAL JACKET #8 (Don Cook, Jr.) /// A nice conclusion to a nice action-oriented little arc. This series doesn't try to be epic, it's just a nice, solid little Superguy story. Here's hoping we see more.
