Journal #2 Preteen Patrol #11 Story type scale: 1: Full-tilt wacko 2: Generally humorous with serious elements 3: Equal balance of seriousness and humor 4: Generally serious with humorous elements 5: Lethal serious, perhaps with flashes of humor Rating scale: (new) 0: Abysmal (As bad as it gets.) 1: Very Bad (Thoroughly wretched, few life signs.) 2: Bad (Still thoroughly bad, but less so.) 3: Very Poor (Might have potential, but needs a lot of work.) 4: Poor (_Does_ have potential, but needs work.) 5: Mediocre ("Eh." Okay, not bad, but not good either.) 6: Good (Genuinely good read. Basic Superguyage.) 7: Very Good (High basic Superguyage. The difference between 6 and 7 is fairly slim.) 8: Excellent (Very high quality writing.) 9: Exceptional (Really excellent, even for Superguy. Can have no serious flaws.) 10: Perfect (The kind of thing that leaves you sitting there in front of the screen going "whoa...." for a while. These are VERY, VERY RARE.) /// RUSH #2 (Rick Rechowicz) /// More origin, basically. We find out that Martin (the guy who got a glass shard from a video game screen embedded in his brain) is now a Superguy with video game powers, Don apparently both has superspeed that he's not quite in control of _and_ does something weird to electricity, and there's an Ancient Very Bad Thing with a lightning motif loose. This series' greatest strength so far is the supporting cast: you can't tell the major characters and expendable extras apart, because they're all drawn believably. (Unless, of course, everyone we've seen up to this point is a major character.) As for the episode itself, origin episodes are rarely spectacular. This one's a solid foundation, however, and that puts it far above most. Rush #2: TYPE: 4 RATING: 6 /// WEIRD SOCIETY #4 (Renee Roberta) /// An actual fight between most of the gang and the evil substitute teachers. This series had improved and was showing potential; I'm actually sorry to hear that it's not going to be continued. Weird Society #4: TYPE: 2 RATING: 4 /// CRAPSHOOT AND CO. #18 (Chris Meadows) /// The team goes through some I Didn't Want To Leave Earth angst, things get even weirder for Kissy and Filmation (and they were pretty weird before), Sasha decides to, um, improve Chance's morale, and Kissy and Filmation get to the rebels' base. And a _lot_ of TMBG references are made along the way. Nice to see Crapshoot back. Enjoyable if slightly generic (and short) issue. Crapshoot And Co. #18: TYPE: 3 RATING: 6 /// TEAM M.E.C.H.A. JOURNAL #2 (Chris Meadows) /// In a slightly bent, folded and mutilated page out of real life, Chris Meadows ends up getting his car.... modified.... by Joe Moore. The idea is to install a guidance system, but apparently there's an extra lever. Further, the phrase "What can go wrong?" was uttered. If you sense impending doom, you're probably right. Short but genuinely amusing. Team M.E.C.H.A. Journal #2: TYPE: 3 RATING: 7 /// PRETEEN PATROL #11 (yay Greg, yay Fishbone, yay yay Greg Fishbone, Greg, Fishbone, Greg Fishbone yay) /// It's confirmed that Number Seven will do anything Sal tells her to, and she decides to prove it by fighting Superguy. She *wins*. Of course, the fight completely demolishes the city, but Number Seven puts it back at Sal's order. Sporkboy and AquaRegia discuss the advertising fliers that the former came up with, but are really on the periphery this issue. Putting this powerful a character in a storyline is dangerous, but I'm interested to see what Greg's going to do with her, and the bit about the automated phone system had me on the floor. Hilarious episode. Preteen Patrol #11: TYPE: 2 RATING: 8 Matthew Gerber ind00597@pegasus.cc.ucf.edu http://pegasus.cc.ucf.edu/~ind00597/
