Summer is a magical unicorn, born of shadow and befriended by Deirdre shortly after her mothers death. With a golden mane and sea green eyes, she was innocent then, and had no true name of her own. Deirdre named her Summer, and took her back to Amber. Summer was found there by the princess Darthene, and accompanied Darthene when she first left Amber, invited to visit her brother Corwin in his shadow kingdom of Avalon. She did not then appear for another thousand years, when she was injured and had a foal, Winter. She had become much less trusting by that point.
