Mandor's Trump

The Trump depicts a young man, mid-twenties or so kneeling on the steps of some kind of chapel most probably. The view is taken from the front and slightly to the side, so if there is some kind of altar you can't see what it is. Behind him are dark rock walls with light falling through from a single stained glass window, which casts a kind of reddish light on and around the main figure.

The young man's brown-eyed and troubled gaze is raised steadfastly and lovingly on something beyond our sight. His black hair is short, cut stylishly to frame what would be a handsome face if his features weren't quite so square, while he himself is wearing blood red scaled armour and a long grey cloak. A longsword rests on the steps in front of him, along with gauntlets. His hands are clenched together in front of him in an attitude of prayer or supplication. It's quite obviously a young knight in some kind of vigil perhaps or receiving his arms.

Urda's Trump

"He appears to be in his mid-twenties, but we all know how deceptive this can be. Jack is seen pictured in a large room in castle Amber that is empty but for a grand piano, a bench, an arm chair. Brown-eyed and brooding he sits sprawled in the chair staring peevishly down into an empty black bottle. Short black hair falling into his eyes unnoticed. Another bottle rolls on the floor, empty. The hand closest to the viewer holds an unopened locket, chain interlaced with his fingers."

Morgan - Questing Knight (200 point version by Scott Olson, player of Andelia, summer 1997)

Darthene's eldest (and so far only) son, Jack Morgan was named Mordred by his mother, and raised in her Shadow of Avalon. He vanished in the midst of walking the Pattern in Rebma, and his mother thought he'd died there on the Pattern. He didn't. Rather than dying, he was taken, by some agent or agency unknown, far out into Shadow, his memories hidden or taken, and then released into a desert. Armed with a locket containing a picture of Darthene and the Trump described above, he went into life, searching through Shadow for the woman shown in the locket.

Finding her after long years of searching, he did not find exactly what he'd thought he sought. Over the years of the search, he'd come to believe that the woman in the locket was his wife, or at least his lover, but certainly not his mother. So their eventual meeting, in Rebma through the assistance of his aunt Deirdre, was a bit of a surprise for him, as was the existence of his half-sister Andelia. She'd been born after his `death' on the Pattern, so there was no reason for him to know of her, even if his memory had not been lost. It took Morgan some time to come to accept that Darthene was his mother, not his lost love, and that Andelia was his half-sister, not his daughter.

Morgan is a very practiced Hellrider, having spent quite a lot of time doing that in his quest after his lost love. It's ironic that he should encounter the person who would lead him to Darthene not during a Hellride but when he'd returned from one, to a Shadow he'd frequented for some time. His ability to use the Pattern was not one of the things he lost with his memories of Mordred.

Morgan is also an accomplished metalsmith, after the Restoration he accepted a post as Royal Smith in Amber under Regent Bleys. He is comfortable creating blades large and small, as well as items of jewelry and other simpler matters. He has taught some of his skills to others, Andelia and Random being two of those known to have worked with him some.

Friends:

Morgan considers Andelia, Random, and Urda his friends. He's often seen in the company of Andelia, and not uncommonly with her and Darthene.

Enemies:

Morgan has not declared anyone his enemy, other than whoever it was who stole his memories. Anyone who hurts Darthene, though, will surely become counted as his enemy.

Mordred:

Morgan's older self was, to be honest, not a particularly nice person. Darthene doesn't talk about Mordred much, but she has said that Morgan is more like Corwin than Mordred was, and that she likes Morgan better than she liked Mordred as he grew up. That's rather damning to Mordred, given Darthene's dislike for her brother. Mordred, growing up and perhaps seeking the father-figure that he lacked, spent a fair amount of time in his uncle Corwin's company, and Darthene has said that Corwin threw this in her face while Mordred was growing to manhood. By what accounts there are, Mordred was a rather self-centered and selfish young man, if one who was graced with a goodly amount of knowledge and a courtly tongue. He was used to getting his own way, and cared little about what he inflicted on others as he got it.

GM Tips for playing Morgan

Morgan has two main drives - first, his love for and loyalty to his mother and half-sister, and second, the desire to be made whole again. Morgan will try to prevent any threat from reaching either Darthene or Andelia, risking himself in the process if necessary. His feelings about Darthene and Andelia are somewhat in ferment, as he wrestles with them trying to reach some conclusion. His determination to regain his memories, to know what was taken from him, can cause him to behave rashly at times, making him jump into things that might be better examined first.

Morgan - Maker and Remade

(225 point version by Sara Willig, player of Urda, fall 1997)

Jack first encountered a knot of his relatives on Shadow Earth in San Francisco. Appropriately enough it was in a bar called The Walrus and the Carpenter where he was drinking with Matthias. A man, a woman and a boy arrived suddenly at a booth. The very woman he had sought for so very long. The woman pictured in the locket he wore always at his breast. Almost he spilled his beer. As in a trance he headed over to her and introduced himself as Jack Morgan, showing her the contents of his locket. The image of his love, the very image of herself.

As Jack had no memories of his past it came out only gradually that he was Darthene's son Mordred, also raised in Avalon. Andelia suddenly found she had a much older half-brother. A bond quickly developed between the two of them.

This knowledge, while welcome on more than one level, nonetheless also shattered Jack's reality. His perfect pedastaled lover, the reson for his continued life and search, revealed to be his own mother! And the woman he met in the bar her twin sister. Love not only dashed but twisted.

Jack also had a single odd Trump, of himself depicted as a knight at vigil in a medieval style church. This came to the attention of Celia who with Andelia and Darthene had sought Fiona. Seeking her input. The Trump was examined and was found to be multilayered, Trump had been painted overtop Trump. And just who did the Trump? The same hand that had done a set of Delwin, Sand, Flora and Random.....? All evidence points to Mandor.

Mordred settled in rather well in Amber accepting his position as Royal Smith. His work is exceptional.

When drunk his conversation will often become odd, expressive of more than 1 opinion. Especially regarding women, who he is both obsessed with and angered by. He is an excellant listener, genuinely interested in the problems of other people and has seemed willing to help with them.

GM Tips for playing Jack

The most important thing to remember about him is that he is a bundle of almost-contradictions: dark, moody, affable, distracted, practical, obsessive, bemused. Women fascinate, anger and frustrate him. Especially Deirdre. He has accepted unquestioningly the existance of having an immediate family. To the disgust of his sister and mother, Andelia and Darthene, Jack also feels a strong connection to Corwin. At almost any oppourtunity he will drink; to drown he knows not what.

Jack as Father

While he would no doubt make a loving father, when he remembered, Jack is moody to the point that his child(ren) would likely feel they were forever walking on eggshells. These mood swings seem to manifest most when he drinks, and he does often.

Friends:

Jack numbers his immeadiate family (Andelia, Darthene), Random and Urda among his friends.

Enemies:

Recent events would lead one to believe that Jacob has become his only known enemy.

Morgan as a Player

Mordred is an as yet unknown factor in The Games. Similarly to his idol/erstwhile father-figure Jack burst onto the scene an amnesiac. A suspicious mind couldn't help but wonder at this. A passive player at best, Jack is interested in recovery of his memories and his obsession with Deirdre.
