Synopsis: Doctor Gangrene is 'back' and more than making up for not
appearing in the first movie. The world has changed much after the Tomato
Uprising of some years ago. Tomatoes are a banned fruit smuggled across
the border like five-dollar hits of pot; pizza is made with boisonberry
jam; and George Cloony needs a haircut, badly. Two pizza-chefs stumble
upon Doc 'grene's evil plot to take over the world by using

Commentary: Of the four Tomato movies extant, this one really takes the cake. While Attack of the Killer Tomatoes is a cult-classic largely by dint of being, well, a cult-classic (a bootstrapping paradox which has given many a movie reviewer a case of the tizzies), this film needs very little fan-padding to be enjoyed without reservation. The first film managed to pull off some incredible one-liners and sight-gags, but Return of the Killer Tomatoes somehow manages to exceed those and deliver a solid humour vehicle that ties everything together rather nicely. The writer and actors are intensely self-aware of what they're attempting to convey here, and while it's certainly not Macbeth -- though it's a darned sight more entertaining than the Scottish Play -- it's certainly worth a rental.
