Guest review by Justin Carliss CAPSULES: Darth Vader: The most visually attractive of the four Jedi Starfighter molds released now, though the new head mold is quite ugly and oddly proportioned. Recommended if you don't have any version of the mold yet, between very mildly recommended and neutral otherwise. Clone Pilot: Again, more visually interesting than the original version, but do esnt really fix any of the molds problems. The new head mold is fairly interest ing though. Recommended if you lack the original, very mildly recommended other wise. RANTS: Packaging: See Wave 5 reviews for details. DARTH VADER * Converts from Sith Starfighter to mech mode! * 2 launching projectile lightsabers! * Includes Darth Vader figure! Newly converted to the dark side, Darth Vader is given the task of crushing all resistance to the Emperor across the galaxy. Armed with his new, heavily modified Sith Starfighter and the power of the dark side, he morphs his vehicle into a powerful combat robot. One barrage of missiles from this terrifying war machine and even the fiercest planet will kneel to the Emperor. This review will cover the main changes between this figure and the other versions of the mold, even the more recently released Mace Windu. This is one of the first SWTF where the vehicle mode is based on one from outside the films. In the SWTF universe it would probably be the missing link between the Anakin version of the Jedi Starfighter mold and the original TIE Advanced Darth Vader. Pilot Figure: It should be the same as the one that came with the TIE Darth, but I don't think it fits well in its respected seat as it should. Color Scheme: More evil than the other three, consisting of mainly black, dark grey and light grey with hints of silver and red. Since it was designed in the storyline (albeit outside the movie saga) to blend in with space if you look closely you can tiny little silver dots which sort of resemble stars - very nice touch! The colours themselves blend in together, unlike the other three where the maroon, yellow and purple on Obi-Wann, Anakin and Mace (respectively) stand out against the grey. The silver and red livens it up a bit though. Another difference is that the plastic used for the cockpit windows is not see-through, but rather opaque black which I also like (and you can't see the mini Darth figure rattling around in vehicle mode either. }-) These colours apply to the mech mode too. Two Sith faction symbols are printed on the cockpit/chest area. The lightsaber has been changed to Vader red. Remolds: Like with every other version of the Jedi Starfighter, except for the upcoming blue Obi-Wan Target exclusive [Dave's note: Wal-Mart exclusive, actually], the only mold change I'm aware of is the head. But as I said in the capsule, it's quite butt-ugly, not helped by the fact that the eyes are painted red, making it look slightly insect-ish as a whole. The instructions illustrate the head more closely to the original TIE Darth but Hasbro of course have been known to screw around with things like that. }-> CLONE PILOT * Converts from ARC-170 Starfighter mode to Clone Pilot! * 2 launching missiles! * Includes Clone Pilot figure! This skilled pilot is part of the Republic's most elite military force. Using a cutting-edge morphing technology developed during the Clone Wars, he is able to engage his enemies on the ground, then quickly morph into ARC-170 mode and bring the battle into space. This is another SWTF where the vehicle mode is (or at least one with this colour scheme) based on one outside the films continuity. At least, I didn't see one in Episode III. Also, because of this recolour there another version of the Republic Gunship SWTF may pop up sooner or later. Pilot Figure: Not a duplicate/repaint of the original, but a new mini-figure altogether. This one wears clone armor, similar to the designs of the original Star Wars films. Color Scheme: Many have said that this new scheme resembles as tiger shark, and they're right. The face in particular reminds me of those seen on the World War II Hellcats and Bearcats. Most of it is the same white used for the original, but the added stripes are a dark green-blue the ones near the front are possibly meant to represent gills. The small R2 unit (I'm guessing that's what it is) at the back is painted dark red with little silver accents. Two faction symbols are printed on the wings. In robot mode, the legs have the same stripes as seen of the vehicle modes body and wings. Otherwise the vehicle modes colours apply to the robot mode too. I like this scheme overall and like the Sith Starfighter; it makes the mold more visually interesting. Remolds: The head is the only mold change I've found. It's interesting in th at it resembles more of a clone commander, rather than a regular trooper. It certainly has that commander look about it with its general shape and the painted eyes at the top. As I said about the pilot-figure, it compares fairly close to the designs of the original Star Wars films (another missing link I believe we have here)!
