When Beast Machines came around, we pretty much thought that was the end of
the Beast Wars line/logo. Not so! The logo lived on via the Mutant Beast
Wars line, while the spirit lived on via the repainted Dinobots line,
composed mainly of recolored Beast Wars Neo toys from Japan. Both tried to
act like they were part of Beast Machines, but they're really just last gasp
survivors of Beast Wars. It looks like the Beast Wars logo will be retired
for good at the end of this year...but that's what we thought a year ago.
Deluxes - Dinotron, Striker, Triceradon and
Airraptor: I only bought Dinotron, a recolor of BW Neo's Hardhead, as I had
the originals of the other three. I comment on the other three in the review
of Dinotron, though. There's some indication that TM Terrorsaur will be
recolored and released as a Deluxe Dinobot.
Ultras - T-Wrecks and Magmatron: T-Wrecks is a recolor of the Ultra
Megatron from Phase I, and Magmatron is a Target exclusive release of the BW
Neo toy by the same name, see the Japanese section.
All Mutant Beasts are Deluxe.
Razor Claw: A green raptor I can buy, but turning
into a green wolverine? Sigh.
Poison Bite: Much nicer, the color scheme works
well for both a fish and a scorpion, even though real barracuda aren't that
Icebird: Contrary to my review, the robot head can
turn, it just needs excessive force to get it started. Also, when
transforming to owl mode, you have to turn the head until it clicks in order
for the gimmick to work.
Soundwave: Fortunately they changed the colors at
the last minute so we wouldn't have a green bat.
