Dave's Transformers Artifact Rant: Armada Prime Shoes Finally found a whole display of these at Wal-Mart. Sadly, my feet are WAY too big for even the largest size of these (Kids' 13 1/2, or maybe adult 2). While I can't wear 'em, UNICRON can. http://www.protoformproject.com/dvd/images/unishoes.JPG CAPSULE Armada Shoes: About as well-made as you can expect from shoes that are designed to be grown out of rather than worn out. Flashing LEDs at sufficient shock on both the heel and on the eyes of Optimus Prime. Non-marking treads. Can't really say how comfortable they are...they'd be REALLY uncomfortable on my size 11 feet, that's for sure. LEDs are good safety thing for kids. Recommended. $14.92 at Wal-Mart. RANT I won't be giving dimensions, since these are available in the full range of kid sizes. I bought a pair of size 13, hoping they'd be big enough for Unicron to wear with feet extended (they aren't, he'd need shoes my size for that). The box is the same for all sizes, though, so I'll measure THAT. It's 9" by 8" by 4" deep (23cm by 20cm by 10 cm) with a simple lid. The Transformers Armada logo is all over it, using the blue and white with red accents background from the first year Armada toys. SG Footwear makes the shoes under license. On the bottom of the box are a trio of trading cards you can cut out or "keep them together and you will have a Transformers mini-poster." The shoes are mainly white with a lot of black trim and white laces, plus some gray trim between white and black between heel and sides. Optimus's "bust" is on a badge on the tongue of each shoe, white with a gray border in the shape of a stylized wolfhead. On the instep facing of each shoe, the white leather (or pseudo-leather) is stamped with a big Autobot symbol a little over 2" (5cm) tall, not colored. On the outside face of each shoe is a full color Optimus Prime head with LEDs in the eyes. A small red Autobot logo is molded into the side of the sole on the outsides near the front of each shoe. The heel end of the sole is wrapped in clear red plastic with the Armada logo repeated three times. The middle has another LED. Any serious shock will activate the LEDs, which cycle through the three in rapid succession three times before turning back off (of course, if you're walking in these, the flashing will be more or less continuous). This ripple effect is nice at a distance, but makes Prime look like he's having a seizure. Thankfully, there is no accompanying sound gimmick. There is also no way to replace the batteries, since as mentioned before, shoes of this size are intended to be outgrown before they wear out. Overall: Decent shoes, nice gimmick, and perhaps the most bizarre accessory you could get for Unicron. Dave Van Domelen, has a tape measure and is not afraid to use it...
