"Jess-... Jesse? There's someone, someone here to see you?" That's Melanie your secretary and her voice is shakey. Melanie is never scared though, as she's quite a daring young woman IN her free time she does mountain climbing sky-diving. She's pierced in how many places (all covered up, as she dresses well for the business day)? She's a wild one, who rides a motor cycle to work, yet Melanie isn't stupid. Just confident and sure justt he kind of secretary you need. It's that tenacity that's allowed her to remain as your secretary for almost three years now, on and off because you're one heck of a slave driver. But melanie stands up to this, with a smile. The only time Melanie is so shakey is when your mo-... Pushing her way past Melanie is a familiar sight or rather to you it might not be. She was never there for much of your childhood, only on and off. But she's here now in a suit with a portfolio tucked under her arm. In marches your mother. "I trust I don't need an appointment to see my own daughter?" Yes.. yes you do. Even dad called before he showed up to at least make sure she was even there. Then he'd make her go and eat. Instead most days she joins him now. Its always the same what she wants to say to this woman. Jesse's eyes glance up from the figures she was reviewing, she calls in a carefully controlled voice, "Its alright Melanie.. hold my calls." Her eyes go over the similiarly blond woman, no.. while unfamiliar growing up. There are still too many shared features for her not to know the woman. "Hello mother...excuse me if I don't get up.. but I'm a tad busy." Go away.. go away go away go away. She's not having the fight today, she doesn't want it. Not at all. Her throat still hurts when she talks. SHe is not going to lose her voice today because she screamed at Libby. "I really wish you wouldn't terrorize my secretary like that. She ends up quitting for a few months after your visits." Usually because of Jesse's behavior after said visit, "What's brought you to Keystone? They touring the Liberty Bell around the country?" "Of course not dear. I wouldn't expect you to get up for me. I mean, I'm only your mother. I only gave birth to you." With this Melanie cringes, and she doesn't cringe at much of anything. But she slips back and away as she'll hold all the calls, and cancel all of your appointments for the rest of the day. Your mood's about to get shot. She'll dart out now to buy the chocolate. Libby lets herself in after closing the door behind her approach and decent into the chair facing you. "Actually you have brought me to Keystone dear. You never visit me. Your father, yes. But me, never." Is there bitterness in her vooice? You betcha. "I heard about your father's 'accident'. How unfortunate for him. I bet he's quite displeased with needing to sit idle for the rest of his life. But now he must know how I feel." Man, she's in a good mood huh? She hands over the portfolio. "You might wish to read this." They're legal documents. And Jesse does try so hard to forget that, pity her father couldn't have her. "Please mother won't you sit down.." Yes its obvious the woman has already sat, but its a not so subtle hint to the older woman. And now its on. Scarily they are most alike now more than ever. The cattiness, the same bitchy demeanor that is skulking out. "Now mother. I visted you four times since I was 18.. as soon as I hit 20 times I'll stop all together since that was about the amount I saw you when I was a child.." Jesse takes the portfolio, "Of course.. you heard about it.. couldn't drag yourself away from your life to see him in the hospital. He was your husband mother, you loved him at some point... couldn't even bother to send him a card. How typicall..." She knows how he feels, crippled. But.. so brave... so hopefull... so much her father.. if only she could be that brave like him. Before her eyes tear up she opens the portfolio and starts to skim them, "What is this?" "Of course you would take his side of things dear. He did, afterall, have all of the time in the world to keep you from me. Did you think I hardly visited because I didn't want to or perhaps I was around so little only because I was _allowed_ to be that much. Perhaps I had to even beg for those few times." She tightens up now across form you. "I should expect you would only see his side. It is all you know, afterall." But Libby stands now, leaving her chair after you bide her to sit. That was indeed just rude. But she moves over towards the window, to look out over this city. This Keystone, the soeedster life that has lured you away from Philly the city you should have made your home. She'll remain while you read. The documents are very real, and all outlining one thing. Bart is to be removed from your and more specifically Wally's guardianship. You're to have no contact with him, for if you do then the judgement shall be ruled against you *both* automically, and you will have lost bart forever. "Yeah... sure.. you're a grown woman mother.. if it had mattered that much you would have fought. but it didn't." Jesse doesn't buy it. She noted even she didn't comment on her father. Libby is just herself. Her eyes return to the papers in front of her. Is this some kind of joke? "What is this? What are you up to? What kind of sick joke is this?" The speedster moves to her feet looking absolutely furious at the woman near her. "How could you even concieve of this...." "Maybe, Jesse, I did fight. Maybe I did try to win, but lost. Something you were never told about." Libby says this while continuing to look out the window hugging her arms about her waist. "I can't blame your father for not having told you. I mean it's not like he would abide with you having any sympanthy for me whatsoever, any feelings of any kind... it's easy to hate me isn't it, Jesse? To allow me to be the vile creature that abandoned you all your life. You always did love your father dearly... so, tell me Jesse, just how easy was it to accept the lie that he's the only one that wanted you? That's what you wanted after all." And then as you finish reading, she turns back to you. "This isn't a joke, Jesse. This is very serious. I consider it because I am concerned for Bart's real mother. How many lies is he being fed, hrm?" Once upon a time, Jesse would have believed that she would have been wanted by this woman. Now to be fed this crap. Her father wouldn't have held back on her at all. The times he's saved her is more than this woman. Ever did for her. "Thanks Libby.. I don't have a mother anymore. Good to know.." She drops the papers on the desk. "You think you were vile then.. I don't even want to tell you how disgusting I find you now. The fact that I share any genetic code with you is too horrendous for words. I've heard of evil.. but that's insideous." "You are concerned for Bart's real mother. No concern for his real father? Funny Libby... you are punishing me.. and Wally for some injustice you see against yourself. I love it that you think so little of me that you would accuse me of lying to him." Jesse idly twirls a pencil, "Way.. to try to mend fences Lib." Her eyes are are furious, and in pain. She would do this to her? What kind of a human being is she? She's supposed to have been a superhero? Noble.. true. SHe led the allstar squadron.... how could she change this much, the blond balls her fist about the pencil as she looks at Libby Lawrence. "I don't expect you to understand this, Jesse. But you are going to have to accept it." With that Libby leans forward, putting her hands on your desk as she just looks to you, her mouth pulled into a tight line. The most frustrating thign about it? It's the kind of expression you make. One of the things you inherited from her. "The law is going to *make* you accept it! Accept m-..." But she cuts herself off there before she snaps too much. He just straightens herself, pulling her suit's jacket and skirt back into place, and then she muses with her hair, puffing it back into place. Like it ever moved. "If you wish to denounce me as your mother so easily... I was never given the chance before. But it's an oppportunity we're not going to allow Bart. You're just jealous," she says as she leans in, "That I'm going to give Bart the kind of attention *you* never got." With that ... Jesse snaps the pencil in half and lets it fall to the floor. Her hand just flings out to swing at that smug bitch with all the grace as if she'd been practicing for years no.. there's no superstrength behind it its just Jesse Chambers, "If you think I'd let you twist Bart into the sort of person you are..." Her hand goes to her own cheek *after* your's has meet her's. It's red and it stings. But for more than just the physical contact of that blow. She ha staggered back a step or two, looking bewildered... that is before she narrows her eyes at you and snarls, "Yes, because he should be raised to be the kind of person that would slap his mother." With that she turns, heading towards your office door while still holding her cheek. "I'll see myself out." "No remember I don't have a mother, Libby. She's been dead for years. You do that." Jesse hits a button on the phone. Its the intercom, "Melanie.. Libby Lawrence is no longer allowed on QuickStart Enterprises property. She arrives have her escorted off by security, she tries one thing... call the police. Matter of fact.. have Security greet her to show her out now..." The blond glances towards the older woman with a raised eyebrow, "You ever want to talk to me again.. you do it through your lawyer. You destroyed whatever chance we had for reconcilliation... this is your fault. All on you Libby." She stares at the woman for a long moment, "When my lawyers are done with you.. you will feel like the hand of god has struck you to the ground. You won't have anything left. Good Day Libby." She pauses to hit the intercom again, "Melanie.. call the lawyers." Inside Jesse's wailing. She's been betrayed by her mother, a woman who should love her no matter what. A woman who should know that this isn't the way to get her attention. Instead.. all hope is lost for the two and Jesse isn't going to play this game with kid gloves. If her mother is going to play this game, she'll do it barehanded and take care of it. She's Jesse Chambers, she's Jesse Quick. She has no mother. She.. needs to call Wally.
