Trial by Fire
by Byron Molix

Ryan walked into his room at his aunt's house, tired and ready for bed. He had had a busy day, and he was ready to end it, but it was however a very satisfying day's work. He pulled a silver class ring off of his right ring finger, and flipped on the television as he pulled off his watch, and pulled his wallet out of his back pocket.
"It was a day of recovery for Kansas City. Local heroes aided authorities in repairing the damage that ensued in the fight that Guardian had with a madman now identified as Moridosi. The Press still has little news about this man, but we will let you know more before his trial. This will be the first trial to hold superhuman criminals accountable for actions in Missouri. Guardian himself cleaned up and repaired all 692 shattered windows, and several building walls. He said 'This is the least I can do. I caused half of this damage.' Our local hero is very modest, but his heart seems to be in the right place. Matriarch, another hero who has recently begun to be given notice in the city, showed up to aid Guardian in cleaning up the town. Matriarch, which we are unsure is human or machine, used her incredible strength to aid both Guardian and the work crews. By tomorrow, there will be no physical evidence that anything out of the ordinary took place. Kansas City can only thank its heroes for this speedy, recovery. Wherever you are, thank you," the news burbled.
The image on the news focused in on a picture of Guardian levitating some rubble, and then the screen split, and an image of Matriarch was pushed in from the right. Here it froze for a few seconds before fading to black.
