After months of cryptic messages sent to the Marathon Story Page, Bungie has finally announced Halo, a third-person perspective game that makes "every other title that shares their genre look just a liiiiitle bit silly", as the folks at Penny Arcade put it (they also did a comic strip illustrating the reaction to Halo in an only slightly-exaggerated fashion). Fan sites are springing up all over, and Hamish Sinclair has collected some in-depth speculation. I've seen video of the in-engine demo they did at Macworld, and it's really dang impressive. Fortunately, it won't be out for a year or so, so I won't have to rush out and buy a new computer.
