In 2020, I had a weird dream about being an adult forced by weird
circumstances to go to a school for magical girls. I ended up taking the
basic ideas and tightening up the logic, creating a one-off story. Then I
wrote a sort of sourcebook, in case I was interested in writing more, or
someone else was. And that was basically it for a few months, but after
watching some Madoka Magica I felt like revisiting it...but not with anything
too time-consuming, so I wrote a drabble, and might write more.
The Core Documents
- Welcome To The School - Professor of Mathematics Mark
Gray has "discovered" magic, only to find that it's not quite what he
thought, and he has to go to a school for Magical Girls...to the disconcert
of almost everyone.
- Sourcebook: the School - A bunch of worldbuilding
stuff that really would be clunky to stick in a story, but I wanted to figure
out.
- Sourcebook: Diversity - The School's magical
curriculum is pretty uniform, with little room for diversity of magical
traditions. This file explains why, and what's being done about it.
- If there's actually interest from other writers, I might need to set up
some guidelines, but here's an important one: no other "weird exceptions"
like Professor Gray. One thing that tanked the Gauntlet setting for me (and
there were others) was that suddenly everyone was writing about exceptions
and no one was working with the main premise...all harmony, no melody. There
should be plenty of grist for stories in this setting without having to break
the setting.

The Stories
I don't want to get too ambitious here right now, since I'm already stalled
on ASH stuff. So I figured I'd stick to drabbles (100 words of story,
exactly) to start with, longer stories if I feel up to it or anyone else is
interested in playing in this setting. In the drabbles, I'm going to avoid
introducing new characters, mainly because there's limited room to do it
correctly...save them for longer stories.

Art and Other Stuff
Various other stuff that isn't stories. I'll give it more organization if
enough material is generated to need it.
- Miss
Vermillion sketch - A color design sketch for what Miss Vermillion's
combat uniform might look like. Of course, she can change its appearance, so
no guarantee is looks like this more than once. May 8, 2021.
- Professor Gray
in uniform - After coloring the basic grays with markers, I added
highlights and shading in various colors, to indicate that he's not so much
the absence of any colors as the presence in muted form of all colors. Pose
inspired by the standard Arcanist combat ready pose from Final Fantasy XIV.
