EXOBOTS: Simple ways to combine Throwbot sets Last Updated: 2/9/99 The idea behind the ExoBots is not to try and fully combine Throwbot sets into new models. Rather, the idea is to take one complete Throwbot and add pieces from another Throwbot to enhance it. Since simplicity is one of the goals, the complex parts of a Throwbot will generally not be disassembled for this, just limbs and kibble. I'll be expanding this file as time goes on and I fiddle with the toys. AMAZON: Because Amazon and Ski are so similar, many of the tricks that work for one will work for the other. Amazon Plus Granite: There's a general lack of connectors in Granite for simple part addition. However, if you strip Granite's core of everything but the axes, this becomes a hand weapon for Amazon, best held on the underside of Amazon's left hand. Remove the gear from Amazon's back and replace it with one of Granite's legs so Amazon assumes a more stable tripod stance, allowing him to stand up while holding the axe machine. The remaining Granite pieces can be assembled into a tripod drone with thrower arm. Start with the 4-long rod normally in Granite's neck. Put a leg (leg plus hip) on one end through the narrow way. Then put one of the eyelet pieces in Granite's neck onto the rod, pointing horizontally. Add another full leg on after that, and cap the end of the rod with Granite's throwing arm. Take the remaining leg and attach it to the rod end of the "eyelet" piece, then cap that rod end with Granite's head, which should point away from the end of the assembly that has the throwing arm. Insert the remainign eyelet into the other side of the head, and it can be used to hold Amazon's sword. This ExoBot conversion will work for any Throwbot capable of holding the axe machine: Amazon, Ski and Scuba. The tripod drone can hold Amazon's sword, Ski's skipole or Scuba's harpoon gun. Amazon plus Jet: A super flight conversion ExoBot for Amazon. It requires a little bit of removal from Amazon, though. Start by removing Amazon's hip-mounted antenna. Remove Jet's wings and strip off the gears, leaving just the rods and wings. Attach the wings to Amazon's hips so that they extend out to his sides. This is conversion stage one, and gives you a winged Amazon. For stage two, first remove Amazon's feet (but not the ankle pieces, just the green foot parts). Now strip Jet's legs, head and arms from the central block. Place Amazon's antenna on the neck piece so that it points in the direction the head did. Reattach the throwing arms at the back of the unit. Now attach Amazon's ankles (the side holes, not the ones that the feet normally go in) to the front pegs where Jet's throwing arms normally go. The antenna should poke up Amazon's back. Finally, crank Amazon's head up all the way. This gives you both the propellor wings on Amazon's back and the throwing arms as a sort of rear wing assembly at the back. Jet's legs and head can be put together into a sort of off-kilter scout drone as well, if you want. Alternately, Amazon's antenna can be placed on the scout drone, either as an antenna or as a weapon. Amazon plus Jet II: This is somewhat lame, but here goes. Remove the gear from Amazon's back and push the rod forward. Remove Jet's head and attach the neck to the peg on Amazon's abdomen. Jet becomes a bipod-mounted megaweapon for Amazon (or any bipedal Throwbot with a gear-gut). A little fiddling and you can get Amazon'e left hand to snug onto one of the top pegs on Jet's body. Amazon plus Electro: This gives you a land-based Electro and Super Attack Mode Amazon. Remove Electro's wings, and pull out the pegs, but don't remove the gears from the pegs. Next, disassemble Electro's legs by pulling out the 2-long rods. Put the four legs onto the body either the same way Granite has them, or in any other configuration that gives you a four-legger. Now remove the antenna and back gear from Amazon and put them on Electro's back, the antenna becoming a lightning blaster and the gear a dynamo. Alternately, since there'll be a 2-long rod left over, you can put the gear on one of Electro's shoulders as a rotating missile launcher, Voltron-style. Oh yeah, and remove the throwing arm. Attach Electro's wings to Amazon's hips using two of the 2-long rods. Then put the gear rods that normally attach the wings to Electro out on the ends of the wings as gun barrels. Next, push the abdominal rod out on Amazon, and attach Electro's throwing arm to it. The arm should point straight out, acting as a main gun. Amazon is now quite heavily armed...add the Granite axe-machine, and he's totally ludicrous. TURBO: The most obvious thing to do with Turbo is reconfigure him so that other Throwbots can be connected to him. One method is to create Dragster Turbo. Remove the "wings" from Turbo, but leave the pegs in place...these will be the attachment point for the legs of any humanoid Throwbot. Remove the front wheels next. Now take the extra 6-long rod that comes with Turbo and use it to attach the "wing" pieces to the front end of Turbo. The two extra pieces should be positioned just inside the normal front pieces, with the rod running through all four pieces. Now reattach the front wheels at the end of the extended front end. This dragster mode can also be lowered a bit more than the normal mode without scraping the bottom bolt on the ground. Dragster Turbo Plus Torch, Ski, Scuba, Jet or Amazon: Remove the feet or skis from the humanoid robot. Rearrange the legs so that the "knees" point forward, and then attach the ankles to the side pegs at the rear of Dragster Turbo. Reattach feet a little higher up on the ankles. Ski's skis I suppose could be used to super-extend the front end of Dragster Turbo instead. The Throwbot is now riding Dragster Turbo into battle. Alternately, the Throwbot can be positioned astride Turbo's middle, using the 2-long pegs, although in this case the Throwbot's feet cannot be reattached to its ankles. Or you can have one leg forward and one back for a dynamic pose.
