Summary of Beast Wars II story in Comics Bon-Bon: September 1998 Okay, I missed an issue of Comics Bon-Bon, and apparently some fairly important stuff happened in that installment, including the appearance and disappearance of a new snail character. Tacking this on top of the fact I don't have someone with me to help on translations this time, expect a lot of revisions to this summary. Page numbers are the page numbers of the story in CBB, I'm not skipping 214 pages of BWII story. }-> Later notes and corrections are in [brackets]. Turns out I got it almost exactly right. [I now have the manga from the August issue.] page 215: Title page. A giant Galvatron rises in anger over Lioconvoy. I think both characters are giant-sized at the beginning of this issue, but I'm not totally sure. Both are giants later on. [Galvatron is in his naturally giant-sized dragon mode after getting an Angolmois energy power-up at the end of last issue. Convoy is still normal-sized.] page 216: A somewhat battle-damaged Lioconvoy gets blasted by Galvatron's dragon mode. page 217: Lioconvoy activates his spinning shield, but it's not enough and the explosion blasts him backwards. page 218: The huge beam blasts Lioconvoy up and out of a pit where the two had been fighting, and it seems he's still normal size at this point. Galvatron rears his head and strikes again. page 219: Galvatron roars triuphantly over his fallen foe in a full-page splash. page 220: Galvatron exposits, apparently about the different ways in which he and Lioconvoy got their beast modes. He was charged up by the alien computer, but Lioconvoy was apparently imbued with the energy of Gaea. He realizes that the Gaea-energy may be in Lioconvoy's Matrix. [Well, not really. But it's still Matrix energy, and worth trying to extinguish.] page 221: Galvatron starts slamming his claws into Lioconvoy's Matrix cover. Lioconvoy blacks out and has a flashback. page 222: Flashback on Cybertron. The protoform Lioconvoy stands before the Prime Council (or whatever it's called...a bunch of Convoys and Primes) for an investiture ceremony. Each member of the council, including Convoy (Optimus Primal) raises a hand and energizes a glowing sphere...Lioconvoy's Matrix. page 223: The Matrix, a symbol/tool of leadership for all Cybertrons, is inserted into Lioconvoy's chest. He salutes. page 224: Back to the present. Galvatron shatters the cover and sinks a claw into the Matrix itself, eliciting a scream of pain from Lioconvoy, not to mention giving him pupils. page 225: Meanwhile, Kid was apparently blown apart last issue, and his bits are strewn all over. Suddenly, the Takotank bursts through the wall, scaring the bejeezus out of Kid, who has no idea what the octopus tank is. page 226: The driver of the Takotank is revealed to be Scuba. Kid fills him in on the dire situation and Scuba holds up a small component which seems to be significant. Maybe it belongs to Kid. [Note: while Ikarn, a recolored Scuba, comes with the Takotank toy, it is indeed Scuba piloting it here. Dave "not the columnist" Barry tells me that Kid calls the pilot Scuba.] page 227: Back at the main fight, something's not going right. Lioconvoy suddenly grows to match Galvatron's stature and stands up. My guess is that whatever energy Galvatron used to grow was absorbed into Lioconvoy via his damaged Matrix. [It now seems likely that Lioconvoy has indeed absorbed Angolmois energy via the direct contact between his Spark and Galvatron's energy-rich form. Angolmois energy power-ups tend to make one go nuts.] page 228: Full page shot, Lioconvoy is one mean badass, ready to kick skid plate. page 229: From inside the pit (which I guess is where they were), Kid's head and Scuba look up in shock at the giant Lioconvoy. Scuba decides this is a Bad Thing, and a call goes out to the Mighty Heroes! Er, no. I mean, Scuba tosses a signal flare into the air, signalling the other Cybertrons. page 230: Flare explodes into the Squidsignal. I'm not kidding. Bighorn, Diver and Apache get the signal. page 231: Elsewhere, south of the border, the Jointron Brothers see the Squidsignal and merge to form Tripredacus, then fly off to the rescue. pages 232-3: Two-page spread as the giant Lioconvoy and Galvatron face off across a devastated city (!) with the full moon between them. Very nice art. page 234: Whssssh.... Silence. Then...the attack! page 235: Lioconvoy slams into Galvatron's head with a Death From Above maneuver. page 236: Meanwhile, in one of the sillier things I've seen all day, Kid has gotten his legs, torso and head together, and is using his joined feet as a beast head to sniff out the location of something, possibly his missing arms. Scuba is carrying him. He talks from both heads at once, which is really weird. page 237: They find something interesting. A computer with a hologlobe above it, showing Galvatron in dragon mode. Scuba exposits and fiddles with the computer, then a strange voice comes from off stage. page 238: It's Convoy, in gorilla mode! Kid freaks out, but Scuba is Da Man, and keeps his cool. Convoy seems to have bad news.... page 239: Back at the fight, Lioconvoy is giving as good as he gets, blocking a dragonbreath shot with one hand and then popping his claws to carve Galvatron a new exhaust port. page 240: Lioconvoy slams his blade into one of Galvatron's eyes. As Galvy screams in pain, Convoy seems to explain how this is all Very Bad. page 241: Galvatron converts to drill mode and launches himself at Lioconvoy, who turns and lets the lion head on his shoulder catch the drill bit in its teeth. page 242: CHOMP! Scratch one drill bit. Galvy's dragon head peeks out from the broken drill in confusion, then gets a fist in the snout. Lioconvoy is now a flurry of action, savagely beating his foe. page 243: More savage beating in a splash page. page 244: Lioconvoy dumps Galvatron into the pit, and he falls onto a dragon- shaped patch on the floor. Boom. page 245: Pit explodes, dramatically backlighting Lioconvoy. Good thing Kid and Scuba got out of there, yes? page 246: Tripredacus flies up. He's smaller than Lioconvoy's head now. He says something annoying, like "Ay, jefe! Que pasa?" and gets swatted. Apache decides that this is REALLY BAD, and then has to run to avoid being stepped on. [Side note: I should mention here that Takara turned the Jointron Brothers into Mexican stereotypes. Dave Barry tells me they say "amigo" and "ole!" a lot in the cartoon. And I later found they use the word "mucha" way too much.] page 247: Just as Convoy feared. Time for him to take action! page 248: Henshin! In robot mode, Convoy leaps at the giant Lioconvoy, countering a few blows, then he extends his glowing palm, the same one he used to help charge Lioconvoy's Matrix in the flashback. page 249: WHAM! Convoy slams his palm over the crack in Lioconvoy's Matrix in a burst of light. Apache and Scuba look on. [Restoring the Matrix to working order seemed to let it purge the harmful Angolmois energy.] page 250: Both Convoys fall to the ground, stunned. Time and a wide gutter pass, and Lioconvoy's back to normal. After some parting words of wisdom, Convoy seems to just fade out. page 251: So, what do we do now? Clean up the mess.
