Guest comments from Justin Anderson, who found one on clearance for $10 at Meijer. DECEPTICON: CRYO SCOURGE Planet: Jungle (ruler) Altmode: Dragon Key Code: u3fl Long exposure to the freezing waste of deep space has irreversibly mutated SCOURGE. No longer a flame-spewing monster consumed by his passions, he is now a creature of ice and cold. Calculating, cruel, and without mercy, he radiates a freezing aura that causes circuitry to short out, and renders AUTOBOT alloys brittle and easily shattered. His breath, once a raging firestorm, is now a creeping cold that sneaks into joints and mechanisms, destroying them from within. The blade of his axe is a razor-sharp shard of supercooled hydrogen ice that leaves a deadly numbness wherever it strikes. During the Beast Wars era, there was a massive Megatron figure that turned into a ferocious red dragon. Two years later that figure was painted into an ice dragon and released as Cryotek! As an added bonus, the name Cryotek is from an old Hasbro toy line called "The Visionaries" from 1987!! (Visual content is the pantone color guide.) Packaging is basically the same as Scourge with the new photos, artwork and bio, plus a Primus Unleashed bit in the window. The inner tray seems to be the same as well, with a plastic protective wrap around the big shoulder spike to protect it from window scuffing (wrapped with a rubber band). I got a Giant Planet map with mine. Co-sells are GF Prime, Primus, Unicron and Quickmix. Color changes: The key is a standard Jungle Planet key, he doesn't get to keep the leader key now that he's dethroned. The main color scheme is a double homage - the blue dragon scheme and "Cryo" name prefix come from Cryotek, a Target exclusive blue recolor of Transmetal 2 Megatron from several years ago. The multiple blues with silver also match well with G1 Scourge. The sprues do not totally line up. The torso, upper and lower arms, jaw, chest panel and head are a dark blue plastic. The fists, inner thighs and lower legs are a medium blue plastic. The shoulder spikes, Beavis heads, beast head, chest panel ends and feet are a light blue, with a transparent green-tinted blue for the claws. The dragon forehead/eyes are yellow. The axe is mostly dark blue with light blue ratchets and spike, with a big transparent blue blade bit. Paint trim is either yellow or silver with a non-outlined Decepticon emblem tampo'd on the forehead and some white airbrushed here and there. Eyes are red, while the beast eyes light with a red LED. I have some light factory scuffing on mine but thankfully, only in silver spots, so it can be eaisly touched up. Sounds, etc seem the same. No mold changes I can tell. Overall: My only dislike of the Scourge mold was the rather busy color scheme, which this fixes with a much more uniform "ice" theme, plus the double homage is a nice touch.
