Here's a guest review from Justin Anderson, who picked up Galaxy Force Optimus Prime: Leader Class Wave 4 Galaxy Force Optimus Prime Metroplex(reship) CAPSULE GF Optimus Prime: No better or worse than the original. Boils down to color preference. $39.67 at Wal-Mart REVIEW Packaging: Nearly the same box as the first Prime, though the blue front trim is gone. Still Earth Planet but that bit is now orange. New art. Co-sells are Cryo Scourge, Quickmix and Primus. Same Earth note as before. The box art and phtos show the 4 planet symbols in black circles which the toy does not have. AUTOBOT: GALAXY FORCE OPTIMUS PRIME (yep, official name now) Planet: Earth Altmode: Truck, sorta jet Planet Key Code: lo9x (lowercase L, not ONE) With the rediscovery of the lost colony worlds and the reunification of the TRANSFORMERS race after millions of years, OPTIMUS PRIME has become the leader of far more people than he ever could have imagined. CYBERTRON PRIMUS has been reactivated, the Planet Keys returned to their rightful place on CYBERTRON, and GALVATRON and his DECEPTICONS all but defeated. It is time, he thinks, for a new golden era of peace in the galaxy, and he has ordered the construction of a fleet of starships so that the AUTOBOTS might explore the galaxy around them, bringing peace and justice wherever they go. While many of the AUTOBOT soldiers who fought with him are choosing to remove their weapon systems now that the war is over, OPTIMUS PRIME has decided to keep his, not because he hopes war will once again come, but as a reminder of what once was. He hopes to serve as a reminder to all those who would bring violence and tyranny to the universe that there are mighty warriors who will stand against them always. So Gandhi he ain't. The "people" wording is a bit unusual as well. Key Code info: Galaxy Force Optimus Prime Optimus Prime. The name is synonymous with goodness, freedom and righteousness. Did you know that there have only been three main actors to ever voice the mighty Optimus prime since he was introduced in 1984. Peter Cullen provided the voice for Optimus Prime for the Generation 1 cartoon and movie. An actor named Neil Kaplan took over the role of Optimus Prime in a show called "Robots in Disguise" but in terms of sheer episodes - the actor Gary Chalk has been the most prolific. He was the voice of Optimus Primal in Beast Wars and Beast Machines and was the voice of Optimus Prime in Armada, Energon AND Cybertron! That's a lot of episodes! (also has a color guide labeled "Super R02 Optimus Prime - Redeco") Plastic changes: Not entirely even with the original release. Black stays black. Blue turns black. Red stays red. Silver stays silver EXCEPT for: thighs become black, and the flip-open gun panels, ladder launchers, leg guns, and main handgun become red. The translucent blue becomes smoky black. Note that the solid black plastic is more like a really dark brown (to me anyway), the same shade as used on the supercon Amada Prime recolor. Paint changes: the original masks were mostly kept. Dropped are the silver stripe over the mouth, yellow cheeks and the shoulder emblems. Added are the conical lights on the cab (yellow) and the 4 planet emblems. The Jungle and Giant Planet symbols are silver, Speed and Earth are gold. The blue strip on his groin is now black, the orange on the knees now blue, and the red on the leg guns now gold. The gold bits on the ladders become blue and the white bits become gold. Oh, and the paint on the headlights extends out to the edges now. The Key has a gold chromed emblem with the side "handles" and top strip painted gold. Matrix is unchanged. The box shows the strip above the mouth painted (which, as noted, the toy doesn't). It also shows the nose painted silver. Galaxy Gonvoy had this paint app but neither US release does. Sonic Wing Mode: Overall, the colors on Wing Saber mesh better with this version of Prime than they do with the original release due to the excess black on GF Prime. Not to say to rush out and buy this version for Sonic Wing Mode specifically (I didn't get WS until after I had both versions of Prime) though if you have no Prime and plan on getting/already have WS, you may want to look into this one depending on personal preference. Overall: Neither worse nor better though I wish the thighs had been left silver just to break up all the black on the legs (the LoC recolor has silver thighs to note it). Though replacing the silver with gold may have tipped it a bit more in favor. Of course, if you passed up on past $40 recolors (which tended to be extensive) you probably won't want this one.
