"Classic" is actually just a classification within this line, which is merely
"The Transformers", but while I briefly toyed with calling this directory
"The", I decided to stick with the fan-tendency to just call everything under
this group Classic. It also includes new Mini-Cons, and possibly a few other
things, as an interim line between Cybertron's end in 2006 and the movie line
in 2007. A sort of Neo-G1/G2 line, reimagining classic characters without
creating a whole new storyline.
A $4 sub-basic price point, with smaller versions of other toys. Unknown yet
if there will be new molds for Classic, or just recolors.
WAVE ONE - REVIEW Recolors of Cybertron figures.
Didn't buy Perceptor.
- Trypticon - Purple and teal recolor of Scourge.
- Fireflight - Jetfire in Powerglide colors.
- Perceptor - CD Red Alert in red and black.
- Leo Prime - Leobreaker in Lioconvoy colors.
WAVE TWO - More recolors. REVIEW. Only have
Menasor and Jetfire, got guest comments on Bumblebee and some comments on
Whirl based on pictures.
- Menasor - Purple and black Optimus Prime.
- Bumblebee - Yellow Hot Shot.
- Jetfire - White and red Thundercracker.
- Whirl - Blue Evac.
So far, the only things I know about at this price point are the new Mini-Con
sets.
WAVE ONE - REVIEW
- Dinobots: Swoop (pteradon), Knockdown (triceratops) and Terrorsaur
(T.rex). These are the first beast-form Mini-Cons. Autobots.
- Demolition Team: Wideload (dump truck), Sledge (bulldozer/power shovel)
and Broadside (tank). Decepticons.
- Night Rescue Team: Firebot (fire engine), Strongarm (police car) and
Divebomb (rescue helicopter). All new molds, you can look at it as an update
of the Emergency Team. Autobots.
WAVE TWO - REVIEW
- Predator Attack Team: Snarl (tiger), Dreadwing (falcon/eagle), Overbite
(wolf). More beastforms. Decepticons.
- Dirt Digger Team: Oil Slick (muscle car), Dirt Rocket (street cycle),
Grindor (monster truck). Information warriors. Decepticons.
- Clear Skies Team: Thunderwing (F-14), Steel Wind (A-10), Nightscream
(dragon). Environmentalists. Autobots.
The core of the Classics line, called Classic Deluxe.
WAVE ONE - REVIEW
- Bumblebee - Melange of several compact cars.
- Starscream - F-15 fighter jet.
- Rodimus - 1978 Dome futuristic sports car.
- Astrotrain - Bullet train meets space shuttle.
WAVE TWO - REVIEW (now has both)
- Mirage - Formula racer.
- Grimlock - Robotic T.rex. Very shortpacked.
WAVE THREE - REVIEW
- Cliffjumper - Straight recolor of Bumblebee.
- Ramjet - Remold of Starscream.
PLUSHFORMERS - REVIEW
- Slumberbee - Not quite a Beetle, but also not the same vehicle as the
non-plush Classics Bumblebee. Fully invertible plush.
- Softimus Prime - G1-style truck mode, partially invertible plush.
The Mega class is called Classic Voyager in Classics, with a $20 price point.
WAVE ONE - REVIEW
- Optimus Prime - Semitractor cabover style.
- Megatron - A blaster in nerf-ish colors.
WAVE TWO - REVIEW
- Jetfire - Futuristic jet based on the F-14 with a little F-15 tossed in.
TWO PACKS
- Optimus Prime vs. Megatron: The Ultimate Battle -
At the Voyager price point, two Deluxe-sized figures of the two, entirely new
molds. Not a store exclusive, but does seem to be hitting Toys R Us first.
Comes with a DVD that the packaging advises is "not a toy". Megatron's
decent, Prime suxx0rz.
- Ultra Magnus vs. Skywarp: Battle for Autobot City -
This is a Target exclusive, recolors of Voyager Prime and Starscream together
at the Voyager price point. Much better buy than Ultimate Battle, despite
being recolors.
- Tweaked Ultra
Magnus - I decided it needed a little something, but not a full "map the
G1 color scheme onto the robot" job. Mainly painted the helmet and added a
few bits of red, also put a layer of gunmetal on the gun.
SPECIALS
- Pepsi Optimus Prime - Recolor and remold of G1
Optimus Prime (or, more likely, G2 Prime) in full corporate shill mode. Won
it from Pepsi's "Transform Your Summer" promotion.
- 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime - A recolor of this
toy in Classics packaging. Comes with a stand that talks (badly) at the
press of a button. Guest review by Justin Anderson.
- Constructicon Devastator: A Wal-Mart exclusive
gift set of the whole Constructicon Maximus set from Energon recolored and
renamed, with a more unified color scheme.
- Masterpiece Starscream: Another Wal-Mart exclusive, this
is the Japanese Mastepiece Starscream redone in cartoon-style colors.
