Dave's Transformers Attacktix Rant Battle Master Wave 1: Omega Supreme Crumplezone The previous Battle Master sets in Star Wars were standalones, but now they're pairing them with a regular figure and boosting the price. $13 is the figure I heard some places, but not what Target is charging. CAPSULE Battle Master Wave 1: Omega Supreme is okay, Crumplezone may be the worst figure in the set. Don't bother getting this set unless you're collecting for molds rather than for play. $14.99 at Target. RANT Packaging: A mostly clear box similar to those used for the Starter (http://www.eyrie.org/~dvandom/BW/Artifacts/AttS1, which also has links to other reviews), but bigger. It also doesn't have a backing bit sticking up at top back, instead putting a logo sticker on the clear box itself. 8.5" (22cm) wide, 6.5 (17cm) tall, and 4" (10cm) deep. The back shows the sample combat setup of TF vs SW from other packaging, and an example of how to use Omega Supreme's ultra-throw ability to launch Starscream into the stratosphere. Cutting the tape on the rear side edges lets you swing the cardboard open, revealing a rulebook/catalog and the twist-ties for the figures. Then you need to cut a lot more tape, undo five twist-ties and a plastic strap to free the figures. A rubber band holds Crumplezone's arm down, no rubber bands on Omega. Interestingly, there's a hole in the bottom of the tray to reveal Omega Supreme's tikwheel, but no hole in the outer box to actually make this a "try me" feature, so it was probably just there to prevent hte wheel from being jammed in. In addition to the rulebook there is a two-color (black and yellow inks) insert showing how to use a Battle Master figure, specifically the knee-attack thing I had to sort of guess at when I got the versus set. The packaging is generally annoying to open and useless for storage, par for the line. Note, the number TF23 is reserved for Galvatron, who comes with the battle case set. OMEGA SUPREME Collector's Number: TF24 Rarity: Fixed Points: 80 Attacktix Class: Mega Faction Class: Autobot Speed: 9-11 (10) Special: 6 Special Ability: Recruit (Autobot) - Put an Autobot into play from your Back-Ups. Height: 5" (13cm) Base: 8cm wide, 7.5cm deep Attack Type: Melee (thrower) Except for the right arm, this is the same sculpt as the Omega Sentinel from the versus pack (http://www.eyrie.org/~dvandom/BW/Artifacts/AttU1). The right arm looks much more like the real toy's, but ends in two long, curving claws intended to scoop opponents up. Like Scorponok, there's no spring action here, just a loose joint. You grab the shoulder and manually toss figures. As with Omega Sentinel, there's shoulder joints, neck, and some rotating turrets, but no waist joint. The head seems to be made of black plastic. The torso, left shoulder, left forearm and left boot are blue plastic. The right shoulder, right forearm and right boot are rigid yellow plastic, while the turrets on the left arm are softer yellow plastic. The upper arms, knees and kneecap triggers are silver plastic. There's orange (UV-glowy) paint on face, chest, belt, claws and left hand "fingers". Medium and light blue paint can be found on the right side accents, yellow paint on the torso and left boot, extensive black and silver paint everwhere. Even standing up as straight as possible, Omega Supreme is leaning back a bit. As if it were designed to look best on the upswing of his toss. It can be a little tricky to hook his claw onto a target, but it's pretty much game over for that figure once you do. Keeping in mind that Battle Masters aren't tournament-legal, and that a well-placed shield missile can take one out in a single shot, this is mainly a figure to get for non-game purposes. And it's only so-so in that regard. You're better off getting the versus pack's Omega Sentinel with its quad blaster. CRUMPLEZONE Collector's Number: TF25 Rarity: Fixed Points: 30 Attacktix Class: Captain Faction Class: Decepticon Speed: 11-13 (12) Special: 8 Special Ability: Sacrifice (Trooper) - Replace one of your Troopers (with) this figure. (The "with" is missing from the actual figure.) Height: 2.5" (6cm) Base: 4cm Attack Type: Melee Lamest melee attack ever. It sticks out only an inch (2.5cm) from the base, and the spring is on the soggy side. Sure, it's speedy and it can survive defeat about a third of the time if you have Troopers, but it's no way worth 30 points. Oddly, while most figures expand some part of the body for the attack mode, Crumplezone's attack arm is the correct size, and his left arm is shrunken. His backpack is also shrunken, and you can barely tell the things there are supposed to be missile launchers. The entire figure seems to be made of dark olive green plastic. The forearm wheels, eyes and cockpit are painted neon blue. The face and hubcaps are gold, and there's some gold dots flanking the cockpit. The back, abdomen, pelvis and thighs are painted silver. The upper arms, jaw, forearm blades and accents on chest and feet are neon green. Pose is a total Dreamwave Crouch, with left arm bent almost as far as possible. Standard four swivel joints, but the waist is spring-loaded. Also, lowering the left arm too much will block springing action. Unless you REALLY like the characters from the cartoon and simply must have every version of them that gets released, don't bother with this one. Dave Van Domelen, expects Omega Supreme could beat Omega Sentinel one-on-one unless Sentinel's player was a good shot, though. Sentinel's just better against non-Mega figures.
