Mail from R.A. Salvatore
In late 1995, I received a letter from Dave Jordan (bardsquest@rmci.net), in
which he enclosed a message allegedly from Mr. Salvatore himself
regarding my web page. While I can't say for certain that this is
genuine, I believe it to be so. The text is below, reprinted with the
permission of both writers; you can judge for yourself.

Jeff:
I wrote to you several weeks ago about R.A. Salvatore, seeing if you had
any additional info about him. Since he seems to be your favorite author
I figured that I would look at all of the stuff that you had about him. I
know Mr. Salvatore, and forwarded all of the info on your page to him. He
just recently responded with this for you, and I will quote it exactly:
"Dear Jeff Barnes:
Greetings! And let me thank you for your interest in my work. Indeed,
most of what you had heard is true: TSR and I have parted ways (for now
at least) and there will be one more Drizzt novel coming (from me, at
least) in 1996. I just wanted to correct one rumor. The parting was NOT
related to money. The issues, which I cannot get into detail, were about
time frames and the number of books. I have signed an exclusive
aggreement with another company that will keep me busy for some time.
Please understand that my relationship with TSR continues. In fact, I
have a story (about Guenhwyvar) in the just-released 'Relams of Magic'.
Again, my thanks for your interest. If I get on line anytime soon, I'll
be sure to look you up.
Best Wishes,
R.A. Salvatore
P.S. Oh, and about the pronunciation of the Dark Elf. You've almost got
it, but I won't tell!"
There you have it Jeff. I certainly would have no need to make any of the
following text up, but I saw your interest in Mr. Salvatore and figured
that I would drop him a line about you. He certainly cares a great deal
about his fans, and hopes that you will try further works by him, besides
TSR stuff (which is very good also). If you would like the list of his
complete works that he has sent to me, please write with your regular
address where I can physically send it to, I would be glad to do this. My
advice...pick up the book "Sword of Bedwyr" you will not find this book at
hobby stores, you must go to a book store i.e. Barnes & Noble,
Waldenbooks. If you have any thing for me please respond back I would be
glad to speak with you. Once again have a great day, and a Merry
Christmas!!!
Dave Jordan
