[Titans] Acting Faster Than Thought, The Flash does a Keystone something. The Flash(#496PX?Jwnce) A stylized lightning bolt cutting through a white circle. Likely that is all that you need to recognize The Flash, a lasting legacy. Covering his lean and toned body, save for the nose and jaw, is a suit of sharp metallic red, a shiney streamlined scarlet. Golden yellow boots with thick treaded soles cover his feets, beneath young and powerful legs. The gold is mirrored in the lightning bolts that wrap about his waist and around his forearms, as well at at the 'wingtips' over each ear, and in the bolt Flash symbol displayed proudly in the center of his chest. Silvery white eyes glaze out at the world, keenly expressionlessly while emotion can be seen dancing on his lips from time to time. This suit fits this man better than a glove, as though he were born to wear it. Now normally this means that he is the fastest man alive, and he was until about ten seconds ago. And it's not that Flash still isn't the Fastest Man Alive,a s he is. It's just that Keystone has suddenly become the Fastest City In Existance. Need a back-up, an explaination? Likely, because wally is looking for one himself. See, having been in New York handling some Titans affair, he suddenly got news that the news coming out of Keystone was hot. LIke as in super hot, speedy hot. So fast it couldn't be processed. Planes were appearing having come from their airport in a split second, traffic heading out just arriving out of nowhere and anything going in disappearing. Closed off as soon as possible, this didn't do anything for those inside the city, and frankly, since The Flash got there, he hasn't been able to do anything either. Feeling like a snail, Wally, in costume, stands there on the sidewalk of the main street in Keystone just watching as everything flys by, save for himself. It's mind boggling, how fast people are moving, and everything else in Keystone. Fortunately Wally can go at the speed of light, as witht hat davantage he is *just* able to make out people zooming around, cars trailing by and the like. Now he knows what it's like for a citizen here to see him. And in all of this chaos he's trying to figure out what's going on, not get hit... and so far he's learned only one thing. "My hair does -that- when I run?" comes the horrified voice of one young Mr. Bartholomew Henry Allen II, suddenly stopped next to Keystone's Patron Saint in a Red Suit. Ahh, the anticlimax of the year - someone had to do it, and Bart's generally up to the task. That or 'understatement', or sometimes 'non sequitur'. Regardless, he stands there next to his cousin, pretty much just gawking shamelessly. He raises his eyebrows, then leans over slightly and elbows the Flash. "You haven't figured out what's going on yet, have you? Woah, dumb question. If you had it wouldn't be happening anymore." Amazing confidence he has in you, isn't it? About as much as he has in you. Which is a lot. Just doesn't appear that way most of the time, does it? That's not just Wally, is it? "I'm glad you're here," he states, and then finds the strength to smirk to you, despite how serious he is taking this all, "As otherwise I would had had to deal with you like this, and you faster than me would just make you even more cocky and unbearable." he's teasing. Now, in the beginning that would have been a blow, but not now. "Were you in or out of Keystone when this hit?" (Don't worry, there's no wrong answer) Sighing, Wally looks about and just... well, looks lost. "Only thing I've gathered so far is that there's a loop to this, a pattern. Look there, see that woman dart by? Well, there she goes again. The exact same woman. And it's the same for everyone, just flying about but all doing the same thing over and over. Looks like seconds to us, so to them it has to be what, the merest fraction of a second?" even though he's standing in one place, Wally knows he's moving at close to light speeds. He can feel it. Andyou must be as well. "And nah, your hair looks *worse* when you run, just never wanted to say anythign to you." Yeah, he can tease now, as with you here, well, he has help he can count on, so he can try to make this fun and not so serious, right? A solution will be found, right? "Oh, man, I'll have to work on that -- been without my Cocky and Unbearable Influence for way too long," returns the younger speedster, deadpan. Half a second later, he grins. "Anyway. Was outside Keystone. Probably a good thing, too. This pattern you're talking about - if it's seconds to us, standing still but looking at it with the ability to see it at its own pace, it's probably actually longer for them. And since it's over and over again...there was this comic book I read once where a bunch of people were stuck in three minutes of history, and they had to relive them over and over again, like a recording. Actually, it sounds like an episode of Star Trek, too. The one where they ended up figuring it out at the last second and programming a sort of trigger answer into Data so they could fix it the next time around-- oh, /Valor/, I sound like such a geek!" Hey, Bart's face? Meet Bart's palm! "I have that comic," he notes, "Or I read it. Something like it. And your granfather was a bigger colector than either of us. Remind me to show you his collection he left me some time?" Wally smiles to you, good naturedly. "Or Groundhog's Day, that horrible Bill Murry movie...Hrm." Flash puts his hand to his chin as he tries to think. "But, if we're seeing them move in only seconds yet they are accelerated and lapsing a period greater than that... you know what? I *hate* time travel. I should have wished for a power ring." Sighing, the flash actually pouts as he actually and truly hates this. Maybe if he had been a scientist like Jay and Barry, or a mathematical genius like Johnny... but this is all just beyond him. Looking left and then right, Wally sprints forward, through the gap made by a repeating loop woman carrying groceries. "Okay, you have the genes for sciene, me, I have the genes for evil no-goods, so together we should be able to figure this out." Just running through the woman, following Wally, Bart starts laughing. "But Parallax said you /were/ Kid Lantern once...! Come on, you'd never give this up -- you know it!" Pausing, then, in the middle of the commons. "Waaaait - have you tried talking to any of 'em yet? Speed up and stop someone? They oughtta be able to understand you even if you're talking faster than the Micromachine Man, so it should be enough time to get a couple answers...right?" Good God Almighty, such ideas this boy has when he lets himself! If only he had an attention span longer than your average subliminal message... "Yeah,I was for a bit, and dang wasn't it cool and all but... you're right, I... I just couldn't... if I didn't...." And bah, Wally screws it and doesn't even try to cover it up as he knwos you're right and you know you're right. There's nothing else he would wish for, or could be. He is the Flash. Bu there is one thing. "I still hate time travel." And witht hat he's in motion with you, wanting to be moving, as that tends to help him to think. "Thing is they're going faster than light, so even if we speed up to that, I don't know if it will be enough. Sides, we go much faster and we'll be approaching the Speed Force. Fortunately for the loop, as I think that's what keeping all of these folks form smashing into it, or accelerating into the Speed Force. But... *snaps his fingers*... if we travel just *at* light speed and traveled in a loop as well, it just might work." Ad for The Flash, a might is all he needs to make it into a must. "Ready?" Of course you are. And thus he accelerates and loops at the same time. High speed running on the spot. Brilliant! "They can't be going faster than light! No way, no way no way no way - only, like...man, it was in the news a month ago...um...photons in some kinda gas can go faster than light in a vacuum, and...ah, fergit it. They're probably going faster than light, yeah," concedes Impulse, finally. Then he blinks as Wally speaks and acts almost at the same time, watches him for a little less than a second (more like an eternity for the elder speedster), glances over his shoulder reflexively, then concentrates and starts up a stationary vibration in an attempt to synch with Wally's speed. He's not as fast - no, he can't go light speed. Not as slow as his 'Kid Flash' bit a couple of months ago, but still not as fast as Wally. His words, therefore, seem unreasonably slow - probably as slow as Wally's words would be to one of the residents. "Don't...know...how...you...looped. Drop...back...down...when...you're...done?" [OOC] The Flash says, "You read the article too!" [OOC] The Flash says, "How Flash of us. :)" [OOC] Impulse grins widely. Acting Faster Than Though, the Flash is indeed, off and running with your idea, his too, but he'll give you credit for it. Soon he is blurring as well, and had he been thinking, he would have lent you that last burst of speed that you needed. But as soon s he does it, he's back with you, slowing once more, all the while stringing out a series of curses. "Too fast," he explains finally, "Whatever speed they're going. The looping, it's annoying as hell., I would get out a word per loop, but since they're repeating and not knowing it all they would reply with was the same word over and over, and even then it took me twenty times to figure it out. But I learned something else. They're getting faster and thus they *are* approaching the Speed Force. We gotta' solve this Bart, and fast. Now, it's only Keystone, so it has to be within Keystone that this is all originating from, right? Or... crud, above. But I don't sense a signal from outside..." He slows more, down to a more standard operating speed as he looks to you. "But the gas you mentioned, it's there. i bet if you go fast enough you can see the traces of it, vibrating faster and faster." [OOC] The Flash says, "If you want to tack in stuff, throw in curve balls. :)" "Naw, I'll take your word for it," replies Bart, frowning and crossing his arms. He scratches his chin. "Uh...in the twenty third century, they've got DIY particle accelerator kits like ya got model radios here. You can't stick a whole city in a particle accelerator, but that kinda thing is what it would take to get something to move like that through the vapor. So either we've got a genius bastard prankster from the future playing around with you, we've got someone who's treating Keystone like a DJ's retread turntable, or we've got someone who can vibrate all the molecules in the city at a speed ridiculous enough to do something like this. Sonics could do it -- has the Fiddler been around? Or could someone have stolen some of Piper's tech? But wait, that wouldn't explain the loop." The teen is starting to look frustrated - he glances up at the rapid motion of the living city, then his eyes widen. "Wait. Wait! Remember how I was when I first got here? How you made me go faster to slow me down?" [OOC] Impulse apologizes for totally Barrying out. :/ [OOC] The Flash thinks it's great. :) [Guests] Guest1 has joined this channel. [Guests] Guest1 has left this channel. [OOC] Impulse laughs. "Fiddler? No, he's in Florida visiting his folks, actually, last I heard and I doubt he'd..." And then Wally just stops and looks to you. "Or maybe someone with his own technology and the patience to take years and years to strike at one moment." A whole Tortise and the Hair thing, of course! Slapping his hand, Wally slows to a stop as he just shakes his head. He should have known. "And Bart, you're brilliant. if I accelerate and push the *plasma* faster, it'll go so fast that it won't affect anyone, and free them. Or it should. But this will leave the bad guy... you want dibs on that? One-two, at the same time?" "...years and years? Tortoise...? Oh, /Valor/, the *Turtle*? Can I *please* kick his butt? What a jerk! Definitely yes speed it up quick right now because you have no *time*, I'm already on my way looking for that nasty little piece of..." The Teenage Tornado's words trail off and are lost in a whirlwind as he veers away from Wally and sets off in search of the slowpoke. "Give him a kick for me," Wally grins, calling after Bart, if he's heard or not. But then, taking a deep breath, Flash concentrates and... then he's off, zipping about Keystone, as fast as he can without pushing it too far and reaching out to that plasma, to accelerate it further... The Turtle shouldn't be *too* hard to find, what now that you're looking for him. That and the fact that his joint is the only place sitting in the center of the city that's domed and decorated like a turtle shell. There's some defenses outside, like lasers and all, but the dome is operating at normal speed, so it should be a simple matter for you, right? Inside you'll find the Turtle, once you get there, in his chair, just laughing. Spotting the Turtle's hideout almost instantly, Bart stops in the middle of the road, facing it, paused out of complete and total aesthetic shock. He says something violently obscene in Interlac which compares the Turtle's mother to a painted lady of Babylon and his father to a colorblind Mod and extrapolates the Annoying Amphibian's total lack of taste from said lineage. He follows it up with a muttered, "...dammit!" and speeds, forthwith, directly through the walls of the demented domicile and is holding the villain's lapels up to his own quicker than you can say Jack Knight. "What the /sprock/ do you think you're doing?! Do you KNOW how many PEOPLE you coulda killed?" "None my fool boy!" The Turtle chuckles so forcefully now that his potbellied belly jiggles beneath the tutrleneck he has on. Green, of course. "That was never the plan! Why would I want to killt he folks of Keystone City? I want to rule it, foolish boy!" So he's smart enough to think up masterful plans but he's not fast enough on his feet to think of witty snappy remarks to call you besides that one. "For years I sat on this technology, waiting for the perfect idea and then I had it when you came along! right now the Flash should be laying dead or close to it all thanks to you, Impulse!" And again he laughs. Oooo, you could just slap him, couldn't you? But first, let him explain. "The trick wasn't just to accelerate the plasma, but to make it 'sticky' as well so that when the Flash tried to defeat it by pushing it too far, it would bond to him all at once, and I got the idea foolish boy, all thanks to you! So soon Wally West will be dead! Even if yo rush now to save him you will be too late, and I will make my getaway! Just wait to see what I have planned for you in two years...then Keystone will be mine!" "Sticky?! I'll show you sticky, you nasty old fashion reject!" With this - he's fast, he can deal - the Kid of Speed shoves the Turtle roughly back in his chair, disappears for a split second, and reappears carrying the biggest, grossest wad of pre-chewed bubbllegum Keystone has ever seen. Quick like a bunny, he coats both the Turtle and his chair in the disgusting, viscous substance, then spitefully sticks a couple wads in what's left of the middle-aged man's hair. "I can save him - you obviously don't know us very well, and you obviously don't bother to think too hard: if Wally dies, then the speed doesn't stop, and you lose all of Keystone to the Speed Force /anyway/! Dumbass." The last word is practically spat out, it's so irate, and then our young media icon and legacy bearer is on his way again. So the goop is supposed to bond to Wally all at once? Okay - easy. Any 30th century third grader can tell you that plasma, the fourth state of matter, is also known as ionized gas. Gas is ionized when exposed to an electromagnetic field, and is therefore susceptible to reintegration (causing a return to the inert state) with exposure to a field with a charge opposite to the original. And -how- does a speedster make a giant electromagnet? By taking a whooooole lot of telephone wire and wrapping it around the local WGBS transmission station. So what's Bart doing right now? Scoring some copper cable! [OOC] Impulse twinks like a mofo! [OOC] The Flash loves you. [OOC] The Flash wants to have your babies. [Guests] Guest1 has joined this channel. Now see, if the Turtle thought out his plan past the solutiont hat he had wanted, he would have realized this. But then, he never was the most bright guy int he world, now was he? But he's stuck now and not going anywhere as you have him loc-.... er, gummed down tight. Trapped as he is, he doesn't even get to get off an 'urg!' before he's out of the picture. But what is in the picture for you is the scene just outside the Turtle's liar-shield, and that is The Flash, who has crawled here. On his hands and knees, one crippled-looking hand curled up to his chest, hacking up his lungs, gasping for breath. Wisps of the gas coil about him, and as they do his whole image begins to blur, as he's fading fast. His cells are vibrating, threatening to vibrate to nothingness pretty soon... [OOC] Impulse snickers. [OOC] The Flash does! [OOC] Impulse says, "Also, CHEEZ, spam on Barry Manilow.." [OOC] The Flash says, "No kidding. :p" [OOC] The Flash left it so you can pose the big flashy finish, all how you want. :) If he stopped to worry over Wally in front of the lair, it'd be Wally's death knell - so, steeling his mind to the task at hand, hyperfocusing like someone just prescribed him Ritalin, Impulse gathers about a hundred feet of cabling before he realizes it's coated in rubber. Oops. A millisecond later, he's in a hardware store, snagging some of the really thick uncoated copper wire - he'll pay for it later - then back again for more as soon as he's got the first length wrapped tightly around the giant antenna. Back and forth back and forth, going faster than he ever thought he could, and...and...and there! It's finished! He chose his antenna well, too, because the WGBS building is equipped with a backup generator with an obscene amount of power, so it can keep transmitting even in the case of a power outage. Wiring the huge electromagnet to the generator, lightning quick, it's only about three seconds after he began the whole process that Bart flips the switch in the basement (uncannily resembling a mad scientist - goggles, hair, and all) and prays he figured right. Unfortunately, the electromagnet will probably make everyone's staplers hit the ceilings and mess up more than a few machines -- but it's a fair tradeoff for being able to live to see another year, eh? Waiting about ten seconds before he turns it off - an ungodly long time, but Bart wants to make sure he kills -all- the gas before he goes rushing up there to give the Flash a hand. When you emerge from your basement, the scene is one of, well, a bit of a messa nd a whole lot of smoke. Just goes hand in hand with saving the day, you know. because this way you get to see the smoke blur the image of the Scarlet Speedster there ont he ground, unable to tell if he's alive or dead. But of course, as you step closer, well, the smoke parts *just* right so you can see it a moment before you get there. Sitting on the pavement, his arms about his knees, is the coughing Wally. An alive one. Smiling to you, he manages to give you a thumbs up, before he holds out his hand to help him up. ANd hell, if you don't wlk over to him he's going to wait until you do, and stay right there. That hurt, but it worked. Worked real good. Before Wally can congradulate you, however, the people that are about (including the people in trees or overturned here or there, as they were wearing fair amounts of metal) start to applaud. For you. Blinking, surveying the damage with more than a bit of chagrin, Bart winces every time he sees a bicycle hanging out of a tree. But - well - living is a *good* thing. Zipping over as soon as he spots Wally, the kid *does* hold his hands out to help his cousin up. "Two things," he says in a low voice. "One - are you gonna be okay? You can breathe and stuff? Do I need to cart you to a doctor? And two - these guys aren't mad at me! Wow!" As Wally answers, the young speedster tugs his mask back from his face and runs his hands through his hair, then tosses off a salute to the crowd. And that just makes the crowd cheer even more. "Two *caff* things... *cough*caff*cough*.... One, yeah, just.... gawd that hurt. And was *caff* gross. I need a shower." Holding your hand tight for a moment, he makes sure to look to you as he musters up a smile. "Two, thank you... for saving my life Bart." And there's no need to worry about things here. People will clean it up, get the Turtle in jail, clean up and all. "Welcome to what you were born to do, Impulse." The people seem to agree. "Race *caff* you home?" Aww, -man-. If that isn't enough to make a guy's chest almost burst with pride, I've got no idea what is. Saving the Flash's life - saving Keystone City...doing what you were /born/ to do. Bart's grin is wide and unstoppable. He couldn't get rid of it if he tried, and he's not even gleefully thinking of how mad the Turtle's gonna be when he can't get the gum out of his hair. No - he's thinking about his granddad.
