From caroline_elliott@verizon.net Thu Mar 11 22:24:19 2004 Date: Thu, 11 Mar 2004 23:39:48 -0500 From: Caroline Elliott To: apparition@lsh.org Subject: Cos Foo On Braal, sports star Rokk Krinn holds a press conference and then is rushed to the shuttle to Earth by his agent. On the shuttle to Earth, Garth boards and finds a seat next to Rokk, who had gotten on previously, at Braal. The two then look in awe at their fellow passenger, R. J. Brande, the tycoon who invented Stargates and who is the driving force behind the United Planets, the peacekeeping confederation that was still in the process of being formed. The ship then lands on Titan, where Science Police trainee Imra Ardeen gets on. Garth fantasizes about her, and then realizes that she was able to read his mind and is embarrassed about it. When the shuttle reaches Earth, Imra points out some people dressed as maintenance workers and declares that they are actually assassins who intend to kill Brande. Garth and Rokk stop them and then capture them. The three go their seperate ways and Brande, lost in thought, is met by his business partner and asstant (Luorno Duorgo). Later, R. J. Brande convinces the President of the U. P. that the U. P. needs a living, visible symbol of interplanetary cooperation to rally around in order to succeed, and she listens to his ideas. The following day, Imra, frustrated with the menial tasks she is given as a rookie, accepts an invitation from R. J. Brande's assistant, as do Rokk, who is busy training for a sports exhibition, and Garth, who is being taunted by toughs in a jail. They all meet in the anterroom to Brande's office, where Imra tells Rokk that his agent is embezzling his money. When the agent threatens Imra, Garth rushes to defend her, to her surprise. Rokk then fires his agent, and the three are summoned into Brande's office, which is completely dark. The three youths see images of famous twentieth-century super-heroes appear one by one before their eyes, and, when Rokk laments the lack of heroes in recent times, R. J. turns on the lights and suggests that the three of them can change that. He explains that the U. P. needs a visible symbol of interplanetary cooperation, and that the three of them, acting as costumes super-heroes, could fill that need. The three of them agree to try it out and form the Legion of Super-Heroes, taking the code-names Cosmic Boy, Saturn Girl and Live Wire, respectively. The Legionnaires, in their early days, went out amongst the people so that the cameras would see them together as a team in places that interspecies cooperation could be noticeably inspired. During one of these stops, at a zoo, they found themselves in the position of having to work together to save lives from animals that were freed by Grimbor the Chainsman, who had been hired by R. J.'s partner Roderick Doyle to create chaos that would discourage the concept of keeping different species together. The three Legionnaires, working together, manage to knock out Grimbor and safely re-cage the animals. Garth Ranzz, Imra Ardeen and Rokk Krinn watch promotional material billing them, respectively, as Live Wire, Saturn Girl and Cosmic Boy, the Legion of Super-Heroes. R. J. Brande's assistant Marla Latham then delivers their uniforms, which they would wear to the next meeting of the United Planets council. Elsewhere, Roderick Doyle plots to plant a bomb at the Council meeting, destroying Brande, the Legion, and any realistic hope for interplanetary cooperation. Later, Tinya Wazzo delivers some documents to her mother, a U. P. delegate, using her inborn powers to walk through the U. P. symbol globe as a shortcut and noticing that an extra ball with wires is on the globe. U. P. President Chu introduces the Legion to the other delegates, and the delegates resist the idea of endowing teenagers with police powers and diplomatic status. While the delegates are debating the matter of approving the Legion, Saturn Girl discovers tension in the room, and scans the mind of all present, discovering Tinya's knowledge of a bomb hidden on the U. P. globe. She accidentally lets this fact slip from her mouth, creating a panic in the room. Cosmic Boy and Live Wire get the bomb out of the council chamber, allowing it to explode harmlessly. This act causes debris to fall in the room, and R. J. Brande's assistant Luornu Durgo, using her inborn powwer to split into three people, saves Brande and the president from falling debris. The Legionnaires then chase after the bombers, who Saturn Girl identifies by their thoughts. The two bombers have split up and hidden, but some help from Tinya reveals the location of one of them, enabling the Legion to capture them. The Legionnaires then search nearby buildings for the second one, and Tinya saves the Legion from that one as well, who was about to shoot Live Wire and Saturn Girl. The following day, the Legion, with Tinya and Luornu as new members, using the code names Apparition and Triad, is introduced to a crowd as the U. P.'s new representatives. Brande and the President then discuss the Legion's future, and the President decides to send the Legion on a high-profile mission so the Legion and the U. P. will be noticed. She sends notices to the governments of six planets, which in turn inform young beings that they have been drafted to serve as their planet's representative in the Legion. Live Wire and Cosmic Boy enjoy a workout until they are interrupted by the female Legionnaires. The Legionaires then leave for a meeting at United Planets headquarters, and see, to their surprise, a number of other youths wearing generic Legion uniforms. They remain hidden as they watch the two young men introduce themselves to one another as Leviathan and Kid Quantum, and then see a young woman who rushes in with super-speed and calls herself XS warn the other two about an approaching Durlan. When the Legionnaires see that the three are about to fight the Durlan, they rush in to restore the peace, and they discover that the three they had been watching had been appointed Legionnaires by their home planets' governments. Soon afterward, with the help of another young man who had been invisible until that point, they learn that the Durlan, code-named Chameleon, is also a Legionnaire (though he doesn't speak Interlac), as is the one who had just appeared, Invisible Kid. Having gotten all that straightened out, they head into the U. P. building for their meeting, at which time they discover that Leviathan was appointed Legion leader by the United Planets. Leviathan then briefs the other Legionnaires on their mission, which is to investigate the disappearance of ships along a once-busy trade route. He shows them the new standard Legion equipment, a transparent body sheath which will protect them from the vacuum of space as well as most other inhospitable environments, and tells Kid Quantum, whose time-stasis powers are amplified by his belt, that he will have to wear the belt over his so-called transuit. As they leave the room to embark on the mission, Leviathan emphasizes the glory that solving this problem will bring the Legion, and Cosmic Boy reminds him that saving lives is the more important goal. They find a freighter that had been missing and board it, splitting into teams to find the culprit and/or the ship's missing crew. One team sees an alien creature, whose thoughts frighten Saturn Girl, and who catches her in a sticky trap and escapes to an upper level of the ship. Another team, on that upper level, finds the crew, most of them dead, wrapped in cocoons of the sticky substance. As they attempt to free the beings inside the cocoons, a large, spider-like creature. They are saved from it by the team which had chased the creature up there, and they battle it until the rest of the Legion arrives. The creature shoots flying, stinging insects at them, enabling it to escape. While the Legionnaires are occupied with the flying creatures, including XS, who runs from them in fear, Kid Quantum chases after the large one, which calls itself Tangleweb. Kid Quantum holds Tangleweb in his stasis field, and brags about the capture to his arriving teammates. While he is bragging, he fails to notice his belt shorting out, and Tangleweb kills him. The other Legionnaires find survivors in the cocoons and free them. Meanwhile, Leviathan and Cosmic Boy run after Tangleweb, who had by that time escaped. Leviathan, ashamed of his performance, resigns the leadership, handing it to Cosmic Boy, and offers to resign from the Legion, which Cosmic Boy refuses. Cosmic Boy assures Leviathan that mistakes are inevitable, but that as long as they learn from their mistakes, Kid Quantum will not have died in vain. The Legionnaires listen secretly as R. J. Brande yells at President Chu for forcing the new members and Leviathan's leadership on the Legion, and during the conversation, they discover that there is a Legion draftee who they didn't know about who neglected to report for duty. Elsewhere, Saturn Girl and Live Wire interrogate the pople who had attempted to kill R. J. Brande in order to find out who had hired them. Later, in the Legion's temporary headquarters, XS packs her bags, believing that she's too scared to be an effective Legionnaire. While she's doing so, she is interrupted by Cosmic Boy, who tells her that only he saw her run from Tangleweb's creatures, and that he believes she'd make a good Legionnaire if she only makes the effort to confront her fears. Invisible Kid and Chameleon arrest Roderick Doyle for the attempted murder of R. J. Brande, and, as they escort him out of his office, he makes a threat. Later, a funeral is held for Kid Quantum, and, while Cosmic Boy is delivering a eulogy, a bomb explodes in the coffin.XS rushes to save everyone in the coffin-bomb's range and succeeds, and is praised by Cosmic Boy for her actions. R. J. leads the Legion to their new headquarters building and he and President Chu give the excited youngsters a tour, during which they are introduced to their new cook, Tenzil Kem, and their missing member, Brainiac 5. After the tour, Leland McCauley contacts them, asking them to protect him from an unknown being who has thus far killed three of his employees on the moon. On the moon, the Legionnaires encounter some Science Police officers who resent their involvement in the matter. They then go to McCauley's office, where he shows them a holo from the killer, who identifies himself as Mano and says he seeks to kill Leland McCauley to avenge the destruction of all other living beings on his home planet. McCauley tells the Legion that those people had been warned about the danger of the chemicals, and tells the Legion about Manos hand, which can disintegrate whatever it touches. The Legionnaires search for Mano and find him, battling him until they reach the surface of the moon. Mano then threatens to destroy the dome which holds their atmosphere in, and Live Wire, thinking that it would kill Mano as well, calls Mano's bluff. Mano then destroys the dome, causing the area where he and the Legion of Super-Heroes are to lose its atmosphere. Mano escapes, and the Legionnaires gasp for air and are finally saved from asphixiation through the quick thinking of Cosmic Boy and Chameleon. The Legionnaires then follow Mano's trail by using Saturn Girl's telepathy, and, while doing so, are contacted by R. J. Brande, who tells them that it was just discovered that Mano had destroyed an entire planet through his touch. The Legionnaires discuss how they could possibly stop someone that powerful, and, at Invisible Kid's suggestion, they contact new member Brainiac 5, who is working on an experiment in his laboratory in Legion headquarters. While they talk to him, Mano kills an employee of his target, Leland McCauley, in order to be allowed to rest in his room, and the murder is detected by Saturn Girl. Brainiac 5 condescendingly tells the Legionnaires that Mano needs time to recharge his powers, because otherwise he would have destroyed the entire moon rather than hunt McCauley personally, and that they have little time until Mano has rested enough to become powerful enough to destroy the moon. The Legionnaires find Mano and capture him by having Chameleon imitate McCauley, and, after distracting Mano by revealing his true nature, having Invisible Kid sneak up behind him and, with Chameleon's help, knock him out. They Mano over to McCauley, who shackles him, and McCauley offers the Legionnaires money to act as his private security team, an offer which they disgustedly refuse. They then rush back to Earth, where President Chu has demanded to speak with Live Wire, and, during the conversation, she tells Live Wire that his home planet had decided that his sister Ayla should be their Legion representative. Inside Legion headquarters, Ayla Ranzz takes on the code-name Spark and tells her new teammates how she and her siblings, including Legionnaires Live Wire got their powers. Live Wire, meanwhile, mopes over the fact that her Legion membership would mean his departure from the team, as the United Planets insists that no planet have more than one representative, and rages at Ayla, who calls him irresponsible for running away from home even though he did it to look for their brother. After R. J. Brande tells the Legion that he is unable to convince the U. P. to let both siblings be on the team, Saturn Girl gets her two fellow founding Legionnaires to go to the President herself and threaten her with a show of disunity, which would damage the U. P. When they see President Chu, she reveals to them the fact that Live Wire is a runaway and his brother who he is seeking is a criminal, and tells them that they can keep whichever sibling they wish to, but can only keep one. Saturn Girl meets and identifies Ultra Boy, who refuses to tell her why he is watching the Legion, and his threatening posture earns him an attack from Spark. Ultra Boy grabs Spark in self-defense, but Live Wire sees this and attacks him to free his sister. Live Wire and Ultra Boy fight, and Live Wire realizes that despite the awesome powers Ultra Boy displays, he can only use one power at a time, which leaves him vulnerable when attacking others. The other Legionnaires intervene to stop the fight, which Live Wire agrees to do after he sees the destruction he had wrought. Live Wire, ashamed of his actions, resigns from the Legion and speaks to Ultra Boy, who implies that he can help locate Live Wire's brother. Ultra Boy flies off with Live Wire and brings him to the headquarters of the Workforce, newly created by Leland McCauley. The Legion heads to Planet Hell to try and re-open access to it from the outside world. The White Trianglers, in league with Planet Hell's warden, attack: A number of Legionnaires on Planet Hell look around themselves in horror as they realize that someone has brought ships to free the thousands of criminals imprisoned on the planet, who will soon be released from their cells, the power to which had been cut off when those ships destroyed the planet's power supply. Suddenly, the man who had told the Legionnaires he was the prison warden flees, and the Legionnaires find themselves about to be trampled by the freed prisoners. The Legionnaires use their jet-packs to escape from the prisoners, and XS goes to check on their teammates who had been in the area that the escape ships had bombed, who turn out to be fine due to Cosmic Boy's creating a metallic shield over them all. Cosmic Boy and Brainiac 5 then deduce, correctly, that the person calling himself the prison warden was actually a faker, tricking them into exposing the power supply so that he could free the criminals. Elsewhere on Planet Hell, the other Legionnaires knock out the pilots of the escape ships and destroy the escape ships so that the criminals don't escape the prison world. The Legionnaires fight the freed criminals, and soon receive help from an arriving ship, which bombs the criminals. The ship's occupants reveal themselves to be the Workforce, which includes former Legionnaire Live Wire, who tells the Legionnaires that his team had come in pursuit of the ship's pilots, who had stolen weapons. The two teams of heroes join forces and manage to knock out some of the criminals. The ship's pilots awaken and distribute the stolen weapons to the criminals, who were losing to the Legionnaires. Shortly thereafter, though, the "warden" discovers that the access tunnel which allowed entry to and exit from Planet Hell had collapsed, and that they were all trapped there. Meanwhile, Cosmic Boy discovers that the air around them is getting hotter, and Brainiac 5 tells him that, due to the destruction of the planet's power supply, the force-field shielding the planet from the surrounding star's heat will collapse in four hours, and that the access tunnel has collapsed, leaving them all trapped. Meanwhile, the newly-armed criminals round up the heroes with their weapons and take aim at them. Brainiac 5 strikes a deal with them to keep the heroes alive (albeit as hostages) in exchange for his attempting to fix the force-field that shields them from the star so that it won't collapse and save all of their lives. The criminals agree to the deal, and Brainiac 5, Workforce member Evolvo, Saturn Girl and Invisible Kid head down the pit where the planet's power supply had been before the criminals destroyed it. Outside the holding cells, the criminals begin to fight with one another. The Legionnaires bust out of their cells and confront the criminals, and Saturn Girl, detecting this, asks the "warden" to calm the criminals down by letting her project his thoughts to them. He tries to do so, but also ends up projecting the thought that he is a racist who sees them all as members of inferior races, a fact which gets the criminals to attack him. Evolvo changes into a stronger, less eveolved form to hold off the onrush of criminals seeking to kill the "warden," and Invisible Kid finally finishes his work, which is to change the polarity of the force-field surrounding Planet Hell so that the star's electromagnetic energy repels the planet and spits it out, saving their lives. The criminals break through Evolvo's defense, but Invisible Kid holds them at bay with a smaller force-field. Later, when Invisible Kid has focused the force-field to keep the criminals incarcerated, Cosmic Boy speaks to Live Wire, but Live Wire, knowing that he cannot rejoin the Legion, turns away and joins his Workforce teammates. At Legion headquarters, a number of Legionnaires watch their newest draftee, code-named Andromeda, use her power of super-strength, super-speed, flight, invulnearability, super-breath, heightened senses and heat vision to brutalize a hired Legion trainer. After taking note of the fact that she must always wear a transuit to protect her from lead poisoning, as lead is highly toxic to Daxamites such as her, Cosmic Boy welcomes her to the team, but is rebuffed by the new Legionnaire, who displays racist attitudes and an aversion to being touched by anyone of another race. President Chu then informs the Legionnaires that Xanthu has drafted a replacement for the late Kid Quantum, who will join the team after he rcovers from a spaceship crash. Andromeda, Shrinking Violet and Kinetix join the Legion; Lume and Gates refuse membership, and Micro kills Ion in an attempt to gain membership. Invisible Kid gives his newly-invented flight rings to the Legionnaires. The female Legionnaires (with the exception of Saturn Girl) attempt to gain entry to a dance club, and while waiting, witness an alien being attacked by White Triangle thugs. They save the alien and Andromeda takes off after the attackers, but she lets them go. Meanwhile, at Legion headquarters, Cosmic Boy and Saturn Girl finish a virtual-reality training session and, swept up in the fantasy scenario, move to kiss each other. When the virtual reality helmets bump into each other, stopping them from doing so, the device shuts off, and they part ways, somewhat embarrassed. On Earth, in Legion headquarters, the Legionnaires prepare to hunt down Tangleweb and capture him once and for all, but, when Cosmic Boy tries to assemble a team to do so, those not included in the mission take their exclusion as personal insults. As the team that had been selected for the mission prepares to take off, Cosmic Boy discovers that Invisible Kid, who thought the team would need him, was stowing away and throws him off the ship. On Earth, Invisible Kid borrows a stealthy, fast ship and takes off after the Legion. In space, the Legion follows the trail of Tangleweb's ship. Suddenly, Tangleweb turns around and attacks them. The Legion tries to capture him, but he captures Cosmic Boy and Spark and takes them with him when the Legion drives him off. Leviathan takes over the leadership of the mission and has Andromeda push the Legion's ship at super-speed so it can catch Tangleweb's ship. After a while, they land on a planet, which they soon discover is inhabited by many beings of Tangleweb's race. One of Triad's bodies, upset at being excluded from the mission, storms off alone and is badly beaten by White Triangle thugs. Brainiac 5, working through the night, figures out how to save Triad's life. On Tangleweb's world, Invisible Kid falls into a trap which brings him into Tangleweb's lair. He tries to free Cosmic Boy from Tangleweb's clutches, but Tangleweb catches him first. Elsewhere on that planet, Chameleon, using his shape-changing body to pantomime a story, explains to his teammates that the other spider-like beings told him that Tangleweb is a criminal amongst their kind, one who looted technology from crashed ships to augment his body and mind. As Chameleon finishes the tale, the Legionnaires receive a message from Cosmic Boy that he, Spark and Invisible Kid are fighting Tangleweb and that they need help. The other Legionnaires arrive, and Chameleon tells Invisible Kid that Tangleweb eats other beings' brains to boost his own intellect which will allow him to create other cyborg creatures like himself. The Legionnaires are suddenly attacked by these others. Leviathan, realizing that Andromeda is the only one of them who is powerful enough to stop Tangleweb and his creatures but is afraid of touching them, grabs her and inspires her to be more active in the battle. She responds by separating the entire piece of the planet that the battle is on from the planet, placing it in space where the cold would freeze Tangleweb and his allies (the Legionnaires flew off when they realized what was happening). Later, Cosmic Boy forgives Invisible Kid for disobeying his orders, and tells Leviathan that they have successfully avenged the blood of Kid Quantum. Saturn Girl decides that the problems of the Legion are Cosmic Boy's fault and she goes to tell him that, but before she can do so, she and Cosmic Boy see Leviathan and S. P. officer get attacked by a Durlan at Science Police headquarters. The Durlan knocks out Leviathan, and the other officers move to attack it, which they think they have done successfully after killing what appears to be a mouse. Soon, the other Legionnaires arrive, and an officer shows them the mouse, telling them it was the Durlan. Chameleon tells them that the mouse is not the Durlan, and the S. P. officer holding the creature soon confirms this be changing himself. He attacks Chameleon and the rest of the Legion fights to defend him. The Durlan copies the powers of each Legionnaire who attacks him, much to the Legionnaires' surprise. He explains that he was created to be a living weapon and then imprisoned as a living sin by the Durlan religious leadership, to which Chameleon belongs. Cosmic Boy sends Andromeda away so that the Durlan will not copy her powers, and then the Legionnaires attack it, watching it copy each of their powers to stymie them. Suddenly, after copying Brainiac 5, it gets the idea of copying the forms and powers of many of them at the same time, turning himself into a Composite Man with the powers of all the Legionnaires. The Legionnaires flee. Chameleon then attacks him, and the Composite Man informs Chameleon that he has killed Chameleon's father and most of Durla's religious leadership. While Chameleon screams in grief, the Composite Man attacks the Legion again and the Legionnaires bury him in the ground. Cosmic Boy asks Saturn Girl to read the Composite Man's mind, but she refuses to, having developed a fear if the Durlan mind after entering Chameleon's earlier that day. She instead tells Andromeda to move further from the battle site, which Andromeda does, saying she has other things to do. Afterward, Chameleon, through Invisible Kid's interpretation, tells the other Legionnaires what the Composite Man had done to his family and tells Brainiac 5 the formula for the substance that the Durlan priests had used to imprison him until now. The Composite Man digs his way to the surface, and XS takes off at super-speed with Chameleon on her back to keep the Composite Man away from Invisible Kid and Brainiac 5, who are recereating the imprisonment substance. Once they are done, Saturn Girl has XS lead the Composite Man back toward the Legion, where the Legionnaires shower him with the substance. The Composite Man pretends to be in pain, but then surprises them by attacking, leading Invisible Kid to realize that he had mistranslated one of the formula's ingredients. Saturn Girl, realizing that she's the team's only hope for victory, forces herself to overcome her fear of the Durlan mind and shut down the Composite Man's mind, an act which causes her to lose her sanity. Later, Chameleon and Invisible Kid tell Cosmic Boy of their intention to go to Durla to bury Chameleon's father, and orderlies from a psychiatric hospital take Saturn Girl to their facility. Kinetix goes on an archaeological dig with Shrinking Violet and loses her powers. Shavughn Erin is officially given the assignment of Legion liason, to her chagrin and the jeers of her comrades. At the hospital where both Triad and Saturn Girl are being treated, Dr. Micah Aven walks in and begins to touch Saturn Girl's head. When Triad tries to get him off of her, he touches her head, rendering her immobile, but not before she can send an alert to the Legion. Cosmic Boy arrives to stop the man from doing whatever he's doing to Saturn Girl. The man reveals that he has healed Saturn Girl of her catatonia, and introduces himself as Aven, Saturn Girl's former mentor. It soon becomes evident, though, that Saturn Girl, while no longer comatose, was not quite cured yet. Cos shares with Aven his suspicions that President Chu was responsible for the Braal-Titan war and might not be dealing truthfully with the Legion either. At Legion headquarters, President Chu refuses to let Cosmic Boy discharge the de-powered Kinetix from the Legion. As he and Kinetix discuss her situation, a wounded Andromeda crashes through the roof. Brainiac 5 devises a cure for Andromeda's lead poisoning, as she tells him her history. Kinetix leaves Earth in a quest to regain her lost powers. Triad is released from the hospital. At United Planets headquarters, Cosmic Boy tries to defend his leadership of the Legion to a panel of diplomats, including Apparition's mother, who is particularly hostile. Shrinking Violet discovers a White Triangle medallion in Andromeda's quarters and displays it at a Legion meeting, leading the Legionnaires to consider Andromeda a traitor. Earthling White Trianglers attack interracial couples, including Ultra Boy and Apparition, who, with other Legionnaires fight them off. Daxamite White Trianglers begin destroying Stargates, including the one for which Kinetix was bound. At Legion headquarters, Cosmic Boy confronts Andromeda with the evidence that she is a member of the White Triangle and confines her to her quarters. Andromeda tells Roxxas of the anti-lead serum Brainiac 5 invented for her. At United Planets headquarters, Cosmic Boy demands Andromeda's expulsion from the Legion, but is told that Daxamite Ambassador Roxxas has demanded that she remain a member. R. J. Brande goes to Trom to convince Tarn Arrah to come off-planet with him to create more Tarnium for new Stargates to replace the ones destroyed by the White Triangle. Tarn refuses, sending his son Jan instead. Invisible Kid forms the Legion Espionage Squad. The White Triangle Daxamites, under Roxxas's orders, destroy every living creature on Trom. The Legion Espionage Squad takes some Earthling White Trianglers captive for interrogation. The Daxamite White Trianglers, now in possession of the anti-lead serum, attack Earth, wreaking great destruction. The Legion and Workforce work together to stop them. On Earth, in a hospital, Cosmic Boy fails in his attempts to get Saturn Girl to regain her mental fitness and help repel the Daxamite invasion, and she cries for Live Wire in a childish fit. Cosmic Boy is forced to leave when a Daxamite destroys the hospital. At Legion headquarters, Brainiac 5 works on a secret project to help stop the Daxamites. Suddenly, Live Wire forces his way into Legion headquarters, and Cosmic Boy gives him a flight ring, reinstating him into the Legion, and sends him on a mission of his own. Elsewhere, Invisible Kid reports to Cosmic Boy that the Daxamites are not wearing transuits to protect them from lead poisoning before he is knocked out by one of the Daxamites. Cosmic Boy relays this information to Brainiac 5, who is alarmed by this and tells Cosmic Boy that if they had taken Andromeda's anti-lead serum, it would drive them mad, as it is targeted only for her genetic structure. Brainiac 5 continues working on his project with greater speed than before. At the hospital where Saturn Girl is a patient, Live Wire enters and provides light for Saturn Girl after a blackout. He speaks to her softly, explaining that she is needed both by the Legion and by him personally, and she comes to her senses. As the Daxamite fight rages on and inspires mob riots in the streets, Live Wire and Saturn Girl return to Legion headquarters, where Cosmic Boy tells her that she must mentally link the teams of heroes in order to get them to herd the Daxamites to a specific spot at the right time. At Legion headquarters, Brainiac 5 declares that they will have to put the plan into action immediately, and Cosmic Boy has Saturn Girl mentally summon the Daxamites to Legion headquarters. Brainiac 5 sets up the device that he had been working on, and the Daxamites and Brande's ship approach quickly. Just as the Daxamites are about to attack the three founding Legionnaires standing on their headquarters roof, Brande's ship opens to reveal that his companion is Jan Arrah. Jan turns part of Brainiac 5's device into tarnium, and the device creates a small stargate directly in the path of the Daxamites. After the Daxamites have passed through, Brainiac 5 removes the tarnium, closing the stargate, but not before Saturn Girl catches a glimpse of a human figure in the stargate. Later, the heroes regroup and lick their wounds, and Brainiac 5 tells them that the Daxamites were sent to a planet orbiting a red sun where they'd be powerless. The heroes then receive the sad news of Apparition's and Andromeda's deaths and erect memorial statues to them. Some time later, United Planets President Chu secretly tells Cosmic Boy that Andromeda is not dead, but instead voluntarily turned herself in and incarcerated herself on Planet Hell to atone for her crime of aiding the White Triangle. Cosmic Boy, understanding that knowledge of that would be a major blow to the credibility of the Legion and the U. P., agrees to keep the secret. Gigi Cusimano and other Science Police officers make a sweep of known White Triangle bases and arrest members of the group, who remain defiant despite their defeat. At Legion headquartersR. J. Brande delivers a eulogy for Apparition and Andromeda. Cosmic Boy then hears many people express hostility toward the Legion, including a reporter, Apparition's mother and the ambassador from Aleph, who is concerned about Kinetix's disappearance. Ultra Boy tells Cosmic Boy that he is quitting the Workforce to do good, thus honoring Apparition's memory. Meanwhile, a Durlan approaches Chameleon and bows, Jan Arrah wonders about the sadness, declaring that death is just a state of change, which his race consider sacred, and Brainiac 5, who is not present, mourns Andromeda in his own way. Hearing Saturn Girl tell him that the team seems to be in a mood of despair, Cosmic Boy immediately abandons two United Planets with whom they were meeting and calls a meeting of the Legion. He encourages the team by reminding them of their hard-won victory over the White Triangle and announces that he invited Ultra Boy and Jan Arrah to join the Legion. Suddenly, President Chu rushes in and berates Cosmic Boy for leaving the service room. She tells him that the Legion will have much less freedom, that they are not to admit any more members, and that he has to kick Live Wire off the team again, which he reluctantly does. Cosmic Boy begins thinking seriously about Aven's suspicions; a number of Legionnaires try to talk to Cosmic Boy, but he refuses to talk to anyone. After they leave his office, he quietly cries to himself over the stress of his position. Cosmic Boy asks Invisible Kid to form an espionage squad and begin spying on the President. He already has. Doctor Zaxton Regulus seizes control of Derek Morgna's laboratories and takes Dirk Morgna hostage. At Legion headquarters, Cosmic Boy throws Ultra Boy out of the rec room,as he is not a member, and he and Triad note that Cosmic Boy has become much more obedient to President Chu recently. Shortly thereafter, Cosmic Boy communicates with President Chu, who tells him to have the Legion help out at Morgna Industries, and who is unaware of something happening behind her back. Cosmic Boy breaks into a laboratory to find Brainiac 5, who has been failing to report to missions, but finds the lab empty (Brainiac 5 time-traveled to the 20th century and got a beer at Warriors). The Legion defeats Regulus, but not before he injects Dirk with an experimental radioactive gold solution, which, after Dirk is bombarded with radiation from an overheating nuclear reactor, causes Dirk to glow and project light like a sun. Valor appears again during the battle with Regulus. President Chu assaults Jan Arrah on Trom. Live Wire takes off to find his brother. Live Wire is taken by police on the planet Bisbe, who mistake him for his brother, Lightning Lord. Lightning Lord facilitates Live Wire's escape from the police and takes Live Wire to Korbal, where he intends to kill him. Spark meets up with the two of them and helps Live Wire defeat Lightning Lord, but at the cost of Live Wire's right arm. The two of them retrun to Winath. Valor makes a third appearance in a power surge related to Brainiac 5's time-experiments. Cosmic Boy gets Brainiac 5 to cause Valor to appear intentionally, and they find out where he is and that they would need the help of the twentieth-century Superboy to get him out of there. A number of Legionnaires use Brainiac 5's time machine to travel to the past and meet Superboy. They enlist his aid and appear with him a short while later, though XS remains lost in time. Superboy, Ultra Boy and the Legion travel to Korr and fight the Scavenger for possession of an item that would help complte the machine necessary to retrieve Valor from the Stasis Zone. During this fight, Shrinking Violet encounters the Emerald Eye of Ekron for the first time. Superboy accidentally lets slip that the Legion is trying to rescue Valor. Brainiac 5 invents a personal force-field belt to protect himself from assaults. Valor is secretly rescued (the public is thrown off by a faked failure) and Superboy is made a Legionnaire and is returned to the twentieth century by Brainiac 5 (Legion of Super-Heroes. Brainiac 5, trying to rescue XS, gets stuck in the timestream, and the twentieth-century villain Chronos, who had himself rescued XS, attacks the Legion seeking their time machine, inadvertently destroying it and an entire wing of the Legion's headquarters. Chronos dies and leaves his assistant, Lori Morning in the thirtieth century. The Legion consults the Time Institute's Rond Vidar about rescuing Brainiac 5. They manage to make contact with him, but the Science Police's interference causes Chronos to be revived and attack them. Brainiac 5 figures out how to stop Chronos and return himself to real time, a plan which the Legion carries out, whereupon Brainiac 5 is arrested for illegal time-travel experimentation. Cosmic Boy, suspicious of the President's motives for arresting Brainiac 5, contacts Live Wire and asks him to form a rescue squad in preparation for when President Chu would directly attack the Legion. Star Boy and Gates join the Legion. Spark rejoins the team. Shrinking Violet is seduced by the Emerald Eye of Ekron. Architect Chuck Taine is brought in to fix the Legion's headquarters building (and nearly killed on accident during a fight between Cos and Leviathan). Invisible Kid tells the Espionage Squad in secret that they are going to start working to stop Cosmic Boy from ruining the Legion by taking the President's orders too slavishly. (Of course, Lyle is already working with Cos...) President Chu wipes Jan Arrah's mind, places false memories in it, puts him inside an armored suit, and trains him to attack the Legion, who she sees as threats to her ambitions due to their capacity for time travel. She sends Jan to attack the Time Institute, where Rond Vidar and Saturn Girl are examining Lori Morning. Star Boy, in a training session, discovers that he has electrical-vision powers. Saturn Girl fights off Jan, while Lori slips away. Saturn Girl runs into Cosmic Boy's office, and tells him that Lori Morning is missing. Before they can take any action on the matter, President Chu calls to tell them about an attack on the planet Guron by the armored man who had recently attacked the Time Institute. Lori gets arrested for insulting an alien being. Valor, upon Cosmic Boy's request, leaves on a fact-finding mission. Along the way, he stops a gang of cutthroats called the Gatherers from getting their hands on some old Braalian weapons. President Chu, after sending Jan to the planet Guron to attack it and then sending the Legion to stop him, contacts the criminal Tharok, telling him to prepare to lead the Fatal Five that will soon be assembled against the Legion. Shrinking Violet stops Jan and the Legion reads his mind, which implicates Ambassador Wazzo in the crime of brainwashing him. Saturn Girl gets Lori Morning released from Science Police custody. Mysa trains Kinetix in mysticism, giving her telekinetic powers, in order that she find the Emerald Eye of Ekron for her. The Legion confronts the United Planets council with this evidence and while replaying the evidence, President Chu points out the image of a Sun-Eater in the background. She adjourns the council meeting, and tells the Legion that they must help assemble the Fatal Five. On the prison planet Takron-Galtos, Brainiac 5 is interrogated by the telepath Nara Minsork. The Legion agrees to help assemble the Fatal Five. Mysa declares Kinetix's mystic training completed and gives her a new form, sending her off to find the Emerald Eye. Cosmic Boy tells the now-recovered Jan Arrah to meet with Live Wire, who would then gather up Ultra Boy and Andromeda and meet up with Valor to form the rescue squad. The Legion gathers the Fatal Five on Takron-Galtos; they do this in two-person teams, and Cos and Vi free Mano from his torment at the hands of Leland McCauley. (While the Legion is away, Legion headquarters is attacked by shape-changing intruders, who are defeated by Chuck Taine, Tenzil Kem, Marla Latham, Lori Morning and Rond Vidar. All but one of the intruders die, and that one is taken by Lori as a pet, which she names Proty.) The Five turn on them. Cosmic Boy tries to stop the fight and get the assembled heroes and villains to concentrate on stopping the Sun-Eater, which the Legion had gathered the Fatal Five to help fight. Tharok tells him that the Sun-Eater threat was faked and that it was part of a plot to destroy the Legion, which he orders his teammates to commence doing. The Five defeat the Legion in battle despite the help of Brainiac 5, who is released from his prison cell to aid them, and new super-strength and X-Ray vision powers newly discovered by Star Boy. XS returns to the thirtieth century and is brought by the rescue squad to help save the Legion from the Fatal Five, which they do. When the Legionnaires have some breathing room, Live Wire lets Saturn Girl see in his mind how Cosmic Boy had contacted him to create a secret rescue squad, and he had recruited Ultra Boy and, with the help of recruits Jan Arrah and Valor, convinced Andromeda to leave her voluntary imprisonment and join the squad as well. Kinetix returns to the Legion in the middle of this battle, seeking the Emerald Eye. The Legionnaires determine that the Sun-Eater is a hoax, and that the Fatal Five, who escape, are about to re-start the war between Titan and Braal. Cosmic Boy splits the Legion and its allies into three teams: one group to stop the Fatal Five from triggering a Titan-Braal war, one group (with Aven's help) to stop the Titanians from declaring war, and one group, including the entire Legion Espionage Squad, to go to United Planets headquarters on Earth, where Tharok had been getting orders from, to catch the mastermind behind the whole plot. The Sting resolves itself, as you know well. President Chu accidentally confesses her crimes on live broadcast, leading to her removal from the office of president and her replacement with R. J. Brande, who eases most U. P. controls on the Legion and pardons Brainiac 5 and Andromeda of their crimes. Jan Arrah, Ultra Boy and Live Wire become official Legion members again. Cosmic Boy announces his resignation as Legion leader. He, Saturn Girl, Live Wire, Leviathan and Invisible Kid begin work on a Legion constitution. Andromeda decides to not rejoin the Legion. Valor, taking the code-name M'Onel, joins the Legion as a "detatched service agent." Jan Arrah takes the code-name Element Lad. Kinetix interrogates the Empress regarding the Emerald Eye's whereabouts. Cosmic Boy, Saturn Girl and Live Wire leave on a goodwill tour to ease tensions between Braal and Titan. Dirk Morgna escapes from the hospital to see his father, and the Legionnaires find a way for the two to touch again safely. The Legion is given custody of Dirk. Invisible Kid makes a mistake that makes him appear to be Spark's secret admirer. He, Spark, Chameleon, Gates, M'Onel and Star Boy are taken by Leviathan to Xanthu to settle the question of Star Boy's Legion status. The next day, the three founding Legionnaires attend a magno-ball game, where they are introduced by the United Planets ambassadors from Titan and Braal. Cosmic Boy initially gets a very cool reception from the crowd, but they warm up to him after an exciting magno-ball exhibition. Suddenly, an explosion occurs. The Legionnaires save many lives, but Live Wire's artificial arm is destroyed, and the Braalian ambassador is in danger of dying. The doctors tell Saturn Girl that the Braalian ambassador will need a telepathic probe to determine his ability to live, and, as Saturn Girl goes to do it, her sister jealously gives Live Wire an unflattering image of Saturn Girl as a child. Live Wire refuses to believe the jealous images and joins the other two Legionnaires. Saturn Girl is about to probe the Braalian ambassador's mind, when the Titanian ambassador begs her not to, afraid that the Braalian is too weak to survive it. When Cosmic Boy voices suspicion that he's hiding something, he allows Saturn Girl to probe his mind, and she discovers that the two ambassadors are intimate friends, and his concern is genuine. seeing how skillful Saturn Girl is, he then gives her permission to enter the Braalian ambassador's mind, in which she finds the ambassador's psyche buried in its own darkness, the shame of having planted the bomb himself in order to make the Braalian-hating Titanians think about the destruction caused by their attitudes. When he saw Cosmic Boy being cheered, he tells Saturn Girl, he realized that most Titanians are not blindly hateful and he tried to disarm the bomb, but accidentally triggered it prematurely. Saturn Girl convinces him that rather than dying, a proper atonement for his actions would be to live and explain his actions, and he agrees. Saturn Girl emerges, and the Braalian ambassador awakens, speaks to the Titanian ambassador, and has the Science Police summoned so that he can confess. The Legionnaires leave, admiring his courage in admitting his shame. Dr. Gym'll, after being hired by Triad to handle the Legion's routine medical needs, arrives at Legion headquarters. Shrinking Violet is elected Legion leader. The Legionnaires on Xanthu fight the Amazer and Star Boy earns the right to stay with the Legion. Apparition frees herself from Ultra Boy's body (Legion of Super-Heroes. Shrinking Violet has the Emerald Eye of Ekron grant Each Legionnaire his or her heart's desire. Doctor Regulus breaks free of the Science Police and takes over the planet Gallan, an incident investigated by both the Legion and the Workforce. In the monitor room in headquarters, Cosmic Boy kisses Saturn Girl, and tells her that he'd wanted to do that for a while. Their romantic interlude is interrupted by a call for Cosmic Boy to report for as mission, which has the Legion and Dirk Morgna, who was asked along by Shrinking Violet, going to Gallan to recapture the escaped Doctor Regulus. Triad splits into three distinct beings, Dirk Morgna returns to normal and Leviathan is killed stopping Regulus, all as a result of wish-fulfillment by the Eye. Shrinking Violet openly employs the Eye's power and attempts to use the Legion to find a way to revive Leviathan, but the Legionnaires prove unwilling to obey her commands. The Emerald Eye, through Shrinking Violet, takes direct control of the Legion, and begins having them remake Earth in its image, but Saturn Girl breaks free and leads Inferno and Shvaughn Erin against it, while Kinetix tries to take its power for herself. Seeing the unity of her team fall apart, Shrinking Violet commands the Eye to turn back time, a command which causes a huge explosion that sends a number of Legionnaires and others backward in time to the twentieth century, where they have met Superman, Ultra Boy encountered and Cosmic Boy captured a youth gang that included Squirrel and Strafe, they helped fight the Sun-Eater, attended Hal Jordan's funeral, helped Superman in an unsuccessful attempt to regain his powers, accidentally freed Brainiac and then, with the help of Vril Dox, helped end his conquest of Colu, fought Poltergeist alongside Deadman , accidentally unleash and then defeat a rogue computer program in Superman's fortress called Blck Zero II, and unwisely enlisted the aid of Impulse in using the Cosmic Treadmill to get home, during which time they acquired a pet monkey, Koko. Back home, Live Wire has been appointed acting Legion leader. Lori Morning is de-aged by Rond Vidar on her birthday, and he establishes limited contact with the Legionnaires trapped in the twentieth century. The twentieth-century Legionnaires, after speaking to the thirtieth-century crew, are evicted from S. T. A. R. Labs due to the actions of Brainiac 5 and Impulse, leading to Impulse's rejection for membership in the Legion. They move into the former headquarters of the Justice League of America, allowing Ferro to stay with them, they take on jobs to earn money, Spark runs away and Saturn Girl accidentally awakens Doctor Psycho while pursuing her, and Saturn Girl then expels Doctor Psycho from her own mind, which he invaded, in a battle that results in Cosmic Boy's being left comatose. You know all of this way better than the synopsis does. Invisible Kid is elected leader of the Legionnaires in the thirtieth century. The Legionnaires in the thirtieth century are contacted by Brainiac 5, who is able to tell Rond Vidar how to make a time machine to rescue them from the twentieth century. He does so, but the machine malfunctions due to Lori's tampering, and the entire Legion (minus the comatose Cos) ends up trapped in the time-stream. Brainiac 5 manages to get the Legion back into normal time, but the Legionnaires end up in three different time periods: the thirtieth century where they belong, the late twentieth century where some of them had been, and the year 1958, in a pocket dimension, where they had their memories warped and they spent some time believing themselves to be Earthling teenagers, spending time with an art teacher named Mister Swan. They then return to the part of the twentieth century that they had previously been stuck in, reuniting with Shvaughn Erin, Apparition and Ferro, and Ferro fights Doc 30 and the Knight Shift to free his brother from their hands, a fight during which his brother is killed. The Legion offers Ferro membership, which he accepts, in his gratitude making new costumes for the Legionnaires, all of which get destroyed except for Inferno's. Around this time, Cosmic Boy and Saturn Girl become engaged to marry, Ultra Boy builds a vehicle for the Legion to use for transportation, the Legion, using it, discovers that Superboy had given his flight ring to his girlfriend Roxy, and the Legionnaires take it away from her, and Gates and Ultra Boy volunteer their help at a soup kitchen. Then, Ferro helps earn some money for the Legion. Later, Brainiac 5 attempts to obtain a responsometer from the Metal Men, which one of them gives him after some initial resistance, and after that, Inferno leaves the group and settles in a mall. It is discovered that Saturn Girl had been unconsciously animating Cosmic Boy's body out of a need for structure, but was actually in love with Live Wire, so their wedding is called off, but Cosmic Boy is then truly healed, and Ultra Boy and Apparition marry. Ow ow ow ow. Brainiac 5 then helps Supergirl solve a magical problem, and then, the Legionnaires get involved in Genesis, during which Spark's powers change from projecting electricity to making things weightless and Phase of L. E. G. I. O. N. tries to steal, but instead disappears into, her touchstone, which was in the possession of Tiffany Cross, after which they revoke and reinstate Superboy's membership and fight Silver Sword and Ferro has a dream, shared by other twentieth-century heroes, that the Legion and most twentieth-century heroes were killed by a bounty hunter. LeVIathan, Invisible Kid, Chameleon, Live Wire and Element Lad, along with Cosmic Boy, Saturn Girl, Triad, and Brainiac 5 are brought into the 1940's of a pocket dimension and implanted with false memories, and are returned to their previous times and places after they "die" there. Following this, the Legionnaires in the twentieth century create C. O. M. P. U. T. O., which creates a time-warp to the thirtieth century for them but then threatens to destroy all human life on Earth, so they battle it with the help of several twentieth-century heroes. Apparition's touchstone merges with that of Phase, and Apparition disappears into it and meets Phase, discovering a connection between the two of them. All other Legionnaires but M'onel (who is elsewhere) are summoned by Cosmic Boy to go through a time warp help him and the Legionnaires who had been stuck in the twentieth century fight C. O. M. P. U. T. O., which they do, enabling the other Legionnaires to join them in the thirtieth century, although Inferno chooses to stay behind. The Legion stops the piracy of Rarb and Stheno in outer space. The Time Institute is shut down and time travel is made illegal once again. Green Lantern appears from the twentieth century and helps the Legion stop the evil Green Lantern Corps alongside his thirtieth-century descendant. The Legionnaires familiarize themselves with the new Legion Outpost. A ceremony formally dedicating it to the memory of Gim Allon (Leviathan) is held, and Dyrk Magz takes on the job of managing and performing monitor duty on the Outpost. Sister Andromeda discovers an odd anomaly in outer space, which she refers to as "Fires of Creation." an image of her appears at Legion headquarters and asks M'Onel to follow her, which he does. Kinetix delivers a note to Ultra Boy that he and Apparition must receive psychiatric counseling. A team of Legionnaires heads for the space anomaly to examine it. Spark begins to have dizzy spells. Saturn Girl returns to Titan to confront Aven over the mental blocks he had placed in her mind. An attempt is made on the life of R. J. Brande by some Sklarians who later kill themselves; the Legion Espionage Squad commences an investigation of it. Spark, Live Wire and Saturn Girl stop a thief from stealing a dangerous toxic strain of bacteria. Spark is told that she will continue to have headaches until she accepts that she is now different from Live Wire or until she regains her lightning powers. She attempts to do so, but is killed instead, and revived by her teammates through use of electricity on Korbal, which changes her power back to her original electric powers. Xanthu is attacked by the Natra Dellons. Ferro seeks counseling from Doctor Ryk'rr, who becomes the Legion's regular therapist. The Legion team investigating the space anomaly reaches it. Star Boy (who had returned to the Outpost) and Monstress go to investigate a communications blackout on Xanthu. Triad, XS and Lori Morning, in H-Dial disguise as Ink, fight a criminal Durlan. Shvaughn Erin is promoted to Lieutenant. Star Boy and Monstress arrive on Xanthu and find that it is under attack by the Natra Dellons. They and the Amazers try to stop the invaders, but before they can, the Khunds arrive and stop them, gaining influence over the planet. Kid Quantum II is invited to join the Legion. Ultra Boy and Apparition are counseled by Dr. Ryk'rr, and Apparition gets an understanding as to the nature of her being. Alux Cuspin is released from prison. Following a day of relaxation, Invisible Kid resigns the Legion leadership and hands the reins to Saturn Girl. Karate Kid quits the Workforce and seeks refuge amongst the Legion over Leland McCauley's attempt to use the space anomaly for profit. The Legion works out a deal with McCauley getting McCauley to drop any charges against Karate Kid stemming from his departure, and the Legion getting Karate Kid's services. Star Boy, Monstress and Kid Quantum discover intentional jamming of Xanthu's communications and go to stop it, but are attacked by the Khunds. They survive the attack, but are unable to prove that the Khunds were in league with those jamming the communications, as the Khunds had destroyed all of the evidence. Karate Kid and Kid Quantum II officially join the Legion, and Sensor and Chameleon leave. The Legionnaires at the space anomaly are drawn out of it by Evolvo's machine while he and Leland McCauley are showing it to the chief armorer of the Dark Circle / Affiliated Planets. Brainiac 5, Andromeda and Kinetix are radically changed after their emergence. The criminal Durlan is freed from Science Police custody by Kono. The anti-Durlan hysteria caused by the escape is increased by the Affiliated Planets and many planets leave the United Planets and join the Affiliated Planets for protection. Meanwhile, the Legion rescues the passengers of the ship on which the Durlan escaped. Monstress, Gates, Kinetix, Ferro, Kid Quantum, XS and Lori Morning find themselves in a world where they are not Legionnaires, and in which the Legionnaires that they are familiar with are quite different than the ones they remember. They attempt to travel through time to return to the reality that they are familiar with, but end up ancountering another odd version of the Legion, and then, the Time Trapper, who had trapped the other Legionnaires in a pocket dimension in order to test their ability to act even when their reality is challenged. The seven free the other Legionnaires, and, after a fight, the Time Trapper sends them all back to their proper place and time . Spark and Triad go to Winath to spy on the Affiliated Planets. Some rebel Durlans approach Chameleon about the theft of the Durlan living weapons. Leviathan and Invisible Kid discover that the Gil'Dan United Planets Ambassador is actually an Affiliated Planets spy. Saturn Girl, Kid Quantum, Live Wire, Ferro and Cosmic Boy investigate an extraterrestrial object, which turns out to be a hostile thing that intelligently counters their powers. They are helped by Lori, in the form of the teleoprter Blip, and defeat it by attacking different parts of the entity before it could re-adapt to defeat its new opponents. A group of Sklarians with Tyrazzian support raid Imsk, escape from the Legion and destroy Imsk's stargate (temporarily stranding XS and Cos on the wrong side). At a party on Winath, one of the co-presidents is murdered by the Composite Man. In retaliation, Winath declares war on Durla and blockades the planet, just as Andromeda and Sensor arrive to combat the anti-Durlan hysteria. The United Planets interrogates the Gil'Dan spies. Andromeda begins to remove communication-jamming devices from Durla. As part of a plan to reach Durla without upsetting the Affiliated Planets, several Legionnaires "quit" the Legion to "join" the Science Police. The Composite Man fails to convince his fellow living weapon to join the Dark Circle and cripples her before leaving on his next mission for them. Andromeda finishes destroying the communications jammers around Durla and the Legionnaires who had "resigned" to wear Science Police uniforms descend to the planet to help Chameleon. In doing so, they get from a dying Durlan the coordinates of the location of the living weapons. Brainiac 5 is summoned to Colu. The Legionnaires on Durla help the crippled living weapon, who joins them in their fight against the Dark Circle, also vowing, with Chameleon, to bring about societal change on Durla. Brainiac 5, Violet and Kid Quantum arrive on Colu to convince the Coluans not to trust the Affiliated Planets. The Composite Man attacks Triad and Spark on Winath, and is then transported with them to Colu, where he fights the entire group of Legionnaires, but is defeated by the entire Coluan planet through the Sleepnet. The Affiliated Planets/Dark Circle attacks Durla. During the attack, the space anomaly collapses, stopping time. The Legionnaires, with the sacrifice of the Composite Man, restart time, in the process eliminating the anomaly and freeing the Time Trapper, who had been trapped in it, and bring a quick end to the war on Durla. n space en route to Earth, Cosmic Boy is taken by the Time Trapper. The Time Trapper thanks Cosmic Boy for the Legion's restoration of time and for freeing the Trapper from the space anomaly. Cosmic Boy, angry over having been manipulated by the Trapper, attacks him, and the Trapper sends him back to the ship he had come from, vowing to make Cosmic Boy grovel before him. The Legion and Science Police bust into the Dark Circle's headquarters. Brainiac 4, who had been the leader of the Dark Circle, attempts to kill her son, Brainiac 5, but the Legionnaires save him. The Legionnaires who "quit" to become Science Police officers officially rejoin the Legion, and so do Chameleon and Sensor, who, along with Saturn Girl, are appointed by President Brande as special ambassadors of diversity. Brainiac 5 visits Doctor Rykrr. The Affiliated Planets reconstitute as a planetary federation no longer attached to the Dark Circle, and sanction the Legion as law enforcement. The Legion arrests former Winathian president Zakk Arn for embezzlement and the murder of his brother. R. J. Brande, King Charlz of Orando and Leejah, the new spiritual leader of Durla, address the galaxy from Durla. Orando rejoins the United Planets. Brainiac 5 keeps a journal of observations and discussions, which helps him conquer his trauma at having been almost killed by his mother and prevents him from reverting to his anti-social behavior. Dragonmage expresses renewed frustration with the slow pace of his recovery from injuries suffered during the fight against Mordru. Alux Cuspin hires Domain to kill Cosmic Boy. Doctor Savant and the Objective Order destroys the Rock of Eternity, causing Thunder to emerge into the late thirtieth century. The Legionnaires based on the Legion Outpost trace the explosion to a type of energy found on Fawcettworld, and there they stop Doctor Savant from continuing his campaign to wipe out magic. Thunder joins the Legion. Kono and Stormfront cause a cave-in at the Crystal Caverns while stealing a crystal for Viktor Rhysson. Star Boy, Element Lad and Ferro rescue a boy trapped by the cave-in. The Legion attends a celebration on the planet Lycidas over that planet's joining the United Planets. En route to this celebration, one ship of Legionnaires brushes against a Blight ship and is stranded on a crumbling moon, but manages to attract the other Legionnaires' attention and get help escaping. The Blight becomes aware of the UP. The Legion looks for pieces of the Eternium on the planet Sataar, and their presence awakens the wraiths Redin and Sarei Klerrgh, who possess M'Onel's and Thunder's bodies, but the Legionnaires drive the wraiths from their teammates' bodies, defeating them. Xotar the Conqueror attacks a museum to find a power source, but is defeated by the Legion and escapes. Star Boy is suspended from active duty. Monstress's skin changes from green to orange. The Legion holds an open tryout session. Amongst the rejected applicants is Blazerr, whose audition is interrupted by Impulse, who had traveled from the twentieth century to warn XS of an impending attack by a villain named Cobalt Blue. Soon, XS and Impulse are recruited by Kid Flash of the twenty-first century to help warn other Flashes, but end up several decades before the Legion's time possessed by Cobalt Blue. Ferro and Triad run afoul some metal-eating creatures while escorting the Plague to Takron-Galtos. The Legion stops an attempt by the Khunds to take Amilia Crugg back to Khundia against her will. Lori Morning is adopted by Crugg and joins the Workforce. The Legion uses the Anywhere Machine to survey the planet Phlogista and discovers the United Molecules. Invisible Kid, Live Wire, Ferro and Karate Kid leave the Legion Outpost to deliver that information. Sensor and Thunder leave to prospect for Eternium. Star Boy discusses his power fluctuations with Dyrk Magz. At a magno-ball game in Tokyo, Cosmic Boy's parents cheer for their son Pol, and Cosmic Boy himself is given the honor of opening the game. Shortly after he does that, he is re-introduced to his old friend Dirk Morgna, who runs (and whose father owns) the home team. After the game, Domain appears and takes Cosmic Boy and the three people standing closest to him, including his brother, Pol, to a different realm. Domain changes the features of the realm so that they are extremely surreal and disorienting. Cosmic Boy tries to summon the other Legionnaires for help, but discoveres that he cannot reach them from where he now is. In the place where Cosmic Boy and the others were taken to, Cosmic Boy tries to help the others, but finds himself falling down and bumping into things, as the place is thoroughly disorienting. He tries to stay in one place, but Domain causes large, explosive spheres (which he is not able to magnetically repel) to be attracted to him. Cosmic Boy asks Domain why he is doing this, and Domain reveals that he'd been hired to eliminate him. After a while, Cosmic Boy hits upon the idea of using a magnetic field for orientation, and he has Pol create one for him. Thus oriented, he easily avoids the spheres, helps out the others, and approaches Domain. Domain, impressed, talks to Cosmic Boy, revealing in passing that it was Cuspin who had hired him. Cosmic Boy, meanwhile, generates enough magnetism to magnetize the spheres and attracts them to where he and Domian are standing. Cosmic Boy leaps out of the way in time, but Domain is badly injured and disappears into his realm, releasing Cosmic Boy and the other three. In Tokyo, Cosmic Boy and his parents discuss the matter of Cuspin and watch his brother and other magno-ball players practice. In Sao Paulo, Cuspin sees someone who he thinks is Domain and acts happy at that person's implying that Cosmic Boy is dead. Once Cuspin has made a clear statement that he had hired Domain, that person reveals himself to be Chameleon and arrests Cuspin and hands him over to the Science Police. He attempts to communicate this to Cosmic Boy, but his flight ring fails for a moment, as does Shvaughn Erin's communicator. Soon, their function is restored and, in Tokyo, Cosmic Boy gets the message, although it dismays his parents to learn that Cuspin had indeed attempted to kill him. (Dirk Morgna gets hit by a bolt of magical energy and begins to burn up.) In Tokyo, Cosmic Boy and his family tour a scrap metal plant. Suddenly, he gets an alert of trouble from headquarters, and at that moment, a tank of hot lava bursts. Cosmic Boy contains the lava until his parents and brother, who also have his magnetic powers, relieve him of that burden and free him to investigate the trouble the Legion had alerted him to. At Legion headquarters, the power returns, although communications are somewhat sporadic, and Star Boy dispatches Monstress and Element Lad to Tokyo, to join Kid Quantum and Umbra, who are en route, and Cosmic Boy. Suddenly, Mysa appears, carrying Dragonmage. She puts Dragonmage down and tells Saturn Girl about the Elementals. In Tokyo, Cosmic Boy, Monstress, Kid Quantum, Element Lad and Umbra converge on the source of the troubles: a huge humanoid flame-being. The Legionnaires on Earth stop Dirk Morgna, possessed by the Elemental Phy'R, from destroying Tokyo, and then stop the Elementals from awakening Mordru, reimprisoning them and killing two of their hosts. Star Boy's powers stabilize. Pernisius captures Sensor and Thunder and uses their Legion equipment to locate some Etermium. The two free themselves while other Legionnaires take on Pernisius and the team assembles to fight an Eternium-powered Pernisius on Hoxar. Sensor escapes, but is captured and sent to Blackstar Juvenile Correctional Facility, where she meets Gear and the two of them escape the prison. Thunder escapes Pernisius's prison by using her magic word to disappear to the ninetieth century, and then returns to the thirtieth to help. After defeating the Legionnaires on Hoxar, Pernisius goes to Rimbor. There, Pernisius is defeated by the Legion, who power themselves with Eternium, the Rock of Eternity is reassembled, and the Legion discovers that Pernisius's possession of Eternium had been a plot by Doctor Savant all along. Thunder takes a temporary leave of absence from Legion duty and returns home to ninetieth-century Binderaan. Dragonmage turns himself in to the authorities. Star Boy is suspended for dereliction of duty. Dirk Morgna discovers that his vision has been altered, and glimpses something odd at a memorial service for Brika. Live Wire leaves the Legion Outpost to help out the Legionnaires on JS-1967 and is berated for this decision. Live Wire, Saturn Girl and Cosmic Boy discover that the Legion is being used as a figure of terror by the corrupt ruler of the planet Wellur and put an end to it. On JS-1967, Dirk Morgna and Mysa discover that the life-energies of Atom'x and Blast-Off had survived the destruction of their bodies as a combined energy-being. They and the Legionnaires stationed there rush the energy to Med-Station One, where the energy-being is contained within a human-shaped suit and takes on the name Drake Burroughs, a combination of his two components' names. Saturn Girl then delivers a report on the entire incident to R. J. Brande. Star Boy and Dreamer go to Summer World to vacation while Star Boy is suspended from the Legion. Element Lad discovers that the trail of several stolen objects, such as the crystal from the Crystal Caverns, leads to Summer World. The Legionnaires make plans to all go there for some fun as well as mystery-solving, with the exception of Brainiac 5, Gates, Ultra Boy, Apparition, M'Onel and Umbra. The Legionnaires vacation on Summer World and discover that tycoon Viktor Rhysson was responsible for the thefts. While they are there, the Emerald Eye of Ekron frees Empress, Tharok, Persuader and Validus and with them forms a new Fatal Five, and the five villains attack the Legion Outpost, taking it over and forcing Brainiac 5 and Gates to flee it. The Amazers and the Outpost team of Legionnaires visit Earth. Four Legionnaires head into space to help a ship in distress, and end up fighting Ares Series Battle Robots and an Emissary from Robotica: The Legion cruiser takes off and eventually reaches the ship that sent the distress signal. They board it and find that the crew is alive but frozen in ice. They investigate what caused it and rule out a robbery attempt, and soon find that there was a hole in the inner hull of the double-hulled ship. Brainiac 5 explains to the others that due to the cost of quality shielding materials, old freighters such as the one they are on had two hulls with scrap metal in between. Suddenly, something starts shooting at them. Brainiac 5 identifies it as an Ares Series Battle Robot, a type of robot that was designed for killing, with an override to the circuit that normally prevents robots from killing. He tells them that they ran out of control and had been shut down and used as shielding. While the other Legionnaires fight the robots, Brainiac 5 figures out how to re-activate the circuit that prevents the robots from killing. Once the Ares Series robots were no longer hostile, the Legionnaires turn to wondering what had re-activated them in the first place. They soon get their answer: an Emissary from Robotica, a "robot paradise" that had been thought only a myth. The Emissary tries to kill them, but they are saved by the Ares Series robots, which could no longer allow a sentient living being to be killed. The Legionnaires then try to head for home, but they discover that the Stargate network had been shut down. The Blight burn out the Stargate network and come to Earth. The four Legionnaires return to Earth some time later to find Earth and most Legionnaires dominated by the Blight. They join up with Chameleon, who brings them up to speed. Chameleon shows the others the Stem, the Blight's center of operations on Earth, and tells them that noone who has gone in has ever returned. The five are about to break in when they find XS and Saturn Girl breaking *out*. XS gives them the information about the Blight's history and the Doda that Saturn Girl had implanted in her mind. The seven free Legionnaires capture a Blight patrol and take from them the device that identifies them to the Blight as one of their own. Using this, they plan to infiltrate the stem and destroy the Doda, which will ultimately cripple the Blight. The infiltration goes mostly as planned till Cosmic Boy is about to kill the Doda. Saturn Girl stops him (by knocking him out). She winds up linking M'onel more securely to the Doda, letting them throw off the Blight's control. The Doda energy erupts in a blaze of light, causing the stem to explode. The Doda blossom with life-energy, as they were supposed to do in their natural life-cycle before the Blight had taken control of them, and this life-energy restores the hope and life-energy that the Blight had temporarily snuffed out. Not long after that, the captured and Blighted Legionnaires, as well as numerous other prisoners of the Blight, emerge from the remains of the stem and the assembled Legion looks at the Doda with hope and thinks of the challenges involved in repairing the Blight damage. Cos, well, you know the Cos - Imra - Garth ouch here. Leland McCauley fires most of the Workforce and replaces them with adult operatives. The United Planets votes to revoke the Legion's law-enforcement sanction and sanctions the Workforce in its place, and also to impeach R. J. Brande. While trying to fix a Stargate that had been corrupted by the Blight, Workforce member Meta causes a rift in space to open up, killing him. Lori Morning gives up her dial so that she and Brainiac 5 can escape the rift. Drake Burroughs, taking the name ERG-1, is accepted into the Legion. The Legion seals the rift, but not before eleven Legionnaires disappear into it. The Legion is disbanded. The Legion Subterfuge Squad is formed. Legion Worlds takes place, including the encounter with Dyrk Magz on Braal. Game start. Dec. 9 log: Tinya tells Brin "Cosmic Boy is around Legion World somewhere. Busy, I imagine." Dec. 13 log: M'onel tells Brainy, "I'm not going to lie to you. I can't lie. Cosmic Boy and others... they're still functioning as the Legion. Dyrk arrested him, but with the help of some of the others, he escaped. I've been sent to bring him back into custody... along with the people who're helping him." Dec. 14 logs: M'onel takes Lyle into custody - one of Lyle's lines is "Tell it to Cos, if you can find him." McCauley has Lyle reprogrammed and given a mission: "Yes, Mr. President. My mission is to arrest Rokk Krinn and any accomplices for the theft of your Footstep Cruiser. I am to track him to where he is and capture him." He pauses. "And once done, I will destroy Legion World, Mister President." Dec. 16 log: Lyle does the Trojan-Horse thing for McCauley, getting onto Legion World. First words out of his (mind-controlled) mouth are "Gotta find Cos..." And he does indeed go bolting through Legion World looking for Rokk. So Lyle definitely thought Cos was there. (Lyle is, by the way, taken down and the Blight-tech removed from him.) Dec. 21 log: Legion vs. two Roboticans Dec. 23 log: More Roboticans, looking for Brainy Another Dec. 23 log: Imra: "Rokk is, well, I don't know where Rokk is right now." Dec. 25: Tinya: "Rokk? I imagine he plans to keep his hands full with Legion World." Dec. 27, Lyle to M'onel: "... and Rokk needs to stay here by his own admission." Jan. 4: Imra, using a power-boosting device Lyle came up with, manages to contact Jenni on Xanthu. Jan. 8: Brainy requests Lyle keep his plans for a non-terminal Footstep Drive secret: "You should not confide even in Cosmic Boy or Saturn Girl." Jan. 9: The Legion gets Thom and Jenni off of Xanthu. Jan. 16: Brainiac indicates that a Robotican was heading toward Braal... Jan. 18: Brainiac 5, about Braal: "My calculations indicate two contingents of Robotican forces on their way there. The first contingent is composed solely of non-ferrous materials. This concerns me. They obviously have this assault planned. Therefore, the fact that the second contingent *is* ferrous indicates that Robotica expects, by the time the second contingent arrives, for Braal to be subdued...*or dead*." Feb. 1: Brainiac 5: "Due to factors unknown to me at the time of calculation", 'unknown factors', he calls it -- he'd never admit to a simple miscalculation, "getting the improved footstep drive operational took longer than I anticipated. In this time, Robotica has taken Braal." Lyle: "Sprocking... Current status? Casualties?" Brainiac 5: "UP force detachments defending Braal were entirely annihilated", to the last man, not that Brainiac 5 thinks that he has to say that part out loud. "There is no more UP military presence on, or near, Braal. I have reports of three Oversight Watchers critically injured in combat." Then, another pause. "There are no known civilian casualties." A longer pause, to let that part sink in. "This worries me greatly." Feb. 28 log: "There have been more imminent matters to deal with than our psychological wellbeing", Brainiac 5 blows off Lyle's concern. "In any case, my twelfth-level intellect is easily capable of handling the stress caused by such events." Bull. "You would do better to direct your concern to the others. In particular, Saturn Girl has suffered perhaps the most, and not only because of the loss of her lover, but also because of the loss of trust in her, from many of the Lost Legionnaires. Ultra Boy -- Apparition -- even, perhaps, Umbra." So Apparition wasn't one of the Lost Legionnaires, but that's a nitpick Brainy isn't getting into at this point. "Chiefly, because of the telepathic illusions she created to maintain several Legionnaires' sanity. Creating an illusionary Apparition to keep Ultra Boy more stable -- creating an illusory scenario to make us think we had been rescued --" Things like that. Brainy's perhaps one of the most forgiving ones about those things. He would, given similar situations, perhaps not acted too unlike Imra. He can see the logic in her actions. But some other Legionnaires dismiss logic and only see the betrayal. "I believe Cosmic Boy will take this quite hard when he hears, if he hasn't already." Garth was perhaps Rokk's best friend, after all. "I suspect he knows, without even having to hear it." Another of those long silences, and then Brainiac 5 stands up. "I have ascertained the Robotican plan for Braal. They are using Braalians to morph ferrous Roboticans' bodies. I have reports of several encounters with a gigantic humanoid consisting of thousands, perhaps millions of Roboticans fused together by the Braalians' powers. I am unable to ascertain whether the Braalians are allied with Robotica of their own free will, or due to pressure or threats. The fact however remains -- a single of these massive humanoids has singlehandedly demolished an entire Khundian armada." "I am sure Rokk has," Lyle says. He's been filing reports like mad since getting Tinya off of Rimbor, months ago. And it looks like he'll be doing another one, before long. Grife, to tell this story again... "I will speak with Imra more," he says. "From what little I have spoken to her so far, she's carrying a lot of remorse for her actions." No one's beating Imra up more about those things than Imra himself: that much Lyle is positive of, having had to make hard decisions. The direction of the conversation is again diverted as Brainiac Five expounds on what the Roboticans have planned, after they've taken Braal, and the young Earthling's face grows three shades of colorless. "Sprocking... A Khundian Armada? Is it...Nura was with the Khunds, before they took refugees off of Xanthu before we got there..." "I have not encountered Dreamer's name anywhere within the lists of confirmed casualties that I have been able to obtain", Brainy says. "Therefore, it is possible that she still survives. You might wish to inform Star Boy of these events, however." Because Brainy sure as hell isn't going to bother, himself. "I suspect I will be able to develop something to disrupt the Braalians' synchronicity with the Roboticans, but I will need further telemetry to perfect such equipment. I will need a Legion team to investigate one of these Roboticolossi." "I'll tell him," Lyle replies. "Though I will have to take responsibility for whatever he does after I do." Nura's not comfirmed dead, but the Roboticans set Thom on edge already. If he even things she's gone... "The Braalians might be enslaved," he says. "I can't picture them doing this willingly...but their magnetic powers could easily scramble the Robotican processors unless they're already protected." Something to ask Rokk about, of course. "I'm getting right on that," he adds, bowing his head to the COluan again. He'll start arranging things from then on, right after he leaves the lab like he does at this moment. "Thank you," he says, before he disappears. Mar 6 log, Tinya/Thom: "I imagine Cos is on his way there, or doing something to help," she muses, with regard to Cosmic Boy's homeworld being attacked. "The minute he heard, he took off, and has been out of communication since." She's worried, but she doesn't say it out loud. Thom Kallor nods his head. "I wish I knew. I would have went with him." He says simply. "I know how Robotica thinks. I might have bought them more time." He looks down as he thinks. Downtime? No way he will stand down now. "You could try and find him, but knowing Cos, if he doesn't want to be found, lots of luck to you, Thom. If he gets in a position where he thinks he needs us, or we'll be of use -- you know he'll call. Trust him. He's always known what he was doing before." Mar 7, Lyle to Triad: "As the most senior currently active member, Lu, I was wondering if you can assist Imra and Rokk on revising the Constitution at a later date?" They're a bit busy now. "The three of you can easily get things up to date."
