From tbutler@birch.net Wed Sep 19 22:53:14 2001 Date: Wed, 19 Sep 2001 21:28:33 -0500 From: Travis Butler To: Chris Bremner , Philip J. Moyer Subject: [UnS] 9/14 Log - Beowulf & Lucien Autolyca has arrived. Beowulf OOCly waves. Lucien OOC Hiya Loewen asks, "OOC How you going to find Lucien, Travis?" Beowulf asks, "OOC Let's see... Kanna mentioned he would probably be cataloging the items in the vault... When I was up here visiting Kanna or Corrine before, would I have met any of the officials who could clear me to go there?" Beowulf asks, "OOC Or would I probably need to try to talk to Corrine directly?" Loewen says, "You'd want to go talk to Catherine, who will take you down to see Lucien, assuming Lucien doesn't tell her to send Beowulf away :)" Beowulf OOCly nods. ============================ ============================ Beowulf takes a few moments out from fasttime prep in Fibber's Closet to try and find Lucien and talk to him about the undersea battleship. Beowulf looks for Catherine in her office. Catherine is busy reading a report. She looks up. "Hello, Prince Beowulf." Beowulf bows with a slight smile. "Sorry to interrupt you... but I was just talking with Kanna, and it seems there's some information I found that Prince Lucien probably needs to know. She mentioned he'd probably be in the Ember vault right now?" She nods. "Yes. Would you like me to see if he's interested in speaking with you right now?" Beowulf says, "Please. As I need to get down to Chaos as quickly as possible, so we can take care of the Serpent's Horn, but this is something that could be fairly important for the Rebma situation." Catherine heads down into the vaults, taking Beowulf to a waiting room nearby, then hunts down Lucien. "Prince Lucien, Prince Beowulf wishes to speak with you." Beowulf waits patiently in the waiting room. Lucien looks up from the plans he is studying. A mystical map of Rebma in three dimensions is hovering before him, projected by Pirotase's magic, while Lucien and Kitiara argue various approches and attacks. Morrigan lounges nearby, seemingly bored, but the way her eyes lock on the jugular of anyone who enters the room shows that she is not wasting time. Papers litter every surface, full of logistical data and troop strength reports. A carafe of Ember wine lies on a sideboard, almost untouched. "Hmmm, oh, yes, show him in." Catherine goes and gets Beowulf and ushers him in. Beowulf follows Catherine in. "Cousin Lucien? Beowulf Kohl, Wakaba's son." He bows slightly, one member of the same generation to another. Kitiara looks him up and down. "Nice to meet you. You can call me Kitiara." Morrigan says nothing; Pirotase seems to focused on her spell to say hello. Beowulf raises an eyebrow slightly and bows again. "Pleased to meet you, lady Kitiara." Lucien introduces his ladies. "This is Lady Pirotase and my Lady Morrigan. What can I do for you, sir?" Beowulf bows in return to the other ladies. Lucien has so far not mastered the nuances of Amber genealogy, so he retreats to formal terms. However, his smile is warm and welcoming, though tired. Already his brow lies uneasy, tho no crown yet rests on it. Beowulf smiles a bit tiredly in return. "Recently, I was... pointed, shall we say, at the stronghold of Annadil. In the process of securing it and sealing off the Outsider trump font in the basement, we came across some information that might be important for you." Beowulf seems to relax a bit, willing to take Lucien at current experience rather than some of the... unfortunate... moments at Marching. Beowulf says, "Among other things, in his workshop we found the plans to a large underwater battleship that Annadil had built there, then assembled in a secret underwater base." Lucien asks, "Do you know where this base is?" Beowulf says, "As if this things is found, and activated, it could be a serious threat, I thought you should know." ===== ===== Lucien OOC is back in Good Stuff, so he's more mellow than he has been ;) ===== ===== Beowulf says, "Unfortunately, no. Annadil seemed to operate under operational security, and did not write down the base location." Lucien asks, "Do you have the plans now?" Beowulf says, "Also, when I was discussing the little expedition with cousin Kanna, she mentioned that the two of you had recently found something that might relate to it, and suggested I should talk to you." Beowulf nods, reaches into the bag, and pulls out the plans for Lucien to look at. "Annadil used both weapons powered by standard magic, and weapons backed by Outsider power. The Outsider weapons could be especially nasty." Lucien says, "Yes, we found a map that is supposed to lead to a secret weapon... however, I had thought it to be something my father had developed or found, not one of Annadil's... then again, my father seemed to have a lot of items pertaining to other people, so perhaps it was something he 'acquired' from Annadil." Lucien frowns and looks over at his ladies. "I'm not sure I want to use somethign tainted by Outsiders. We are attempting to drive out their influence." Beowulf hmmms. "I'd thought about that... but as I remember, Annadil and Derith vanished at about the same time, so your father wasn't that likely to have picked it up after Annadil vanished, and Annadil never referred to having lost control of it. Though he never did seem to have activated it." Lucien says, "Well, it may be that my father acquired the map of where Annadil hid it, but then events overtook them both before either could use it." Beowulf nods emphatically. "Just so. Although it might be safe to use after the Outsider weapons were destroyed and sealed off; Lian has been learning Elder Lore, and knows a good bit about sealing Outsider-tainted things." Lucien says, "After I retake Rebma, I intend to toss every Outsider tainted thing I can find into the Abyss." Kitiara says, "Did he give any idea of what he planned to use it for, Prince Beowulf?" Beowulf grins slightly. "She just left a gigantic Elder Seal on the site of the former Yellow Temple in Leng, after we finished destroying the place." Beowulf taps his chin, trying to remember. Beowulf says, "There was something that suggested he was going to use it against Rebma, on the Day of Darkness... but then Rebma vanished on its own." Beowulf says, "One thing that disturbed me is there there were some hints that the battleship was actually a collaboration, that someone else worked on it with him." Lucien asks, "What sort of clues?" Beowulf says, "Well, for starters, he didn't have much information on ship design in his library... yet the design is fairly sophisticated. And the design incorporates some trump-related features, despite Annadil not being much of a trump master." Lucien asks, "Well, we still are not certain that my map leads to Annadil's battleship... did he give it a name?" Beowulf says, "It was named 'Leviathan.'" Lucien sighs. "It is the same ship." Lucien says, "My father must have discovered Annadil's plans. Very likely his attempt to redraw the Water Pattern was his idea of a defense against them" Beowulf lets out a breath slowly. "Well. So now we know." Lucien says, "We'll have to take Lian along with us in our search for it." Morrigan says, "Did his library contain plans for that damnable Abyss sub as well?" Beowulf nods. "She's currently doing some fasttime recovery and prep work with Kanna; Kanna and I will be heading down to Chaos shortly to try and take care of the Serpent's Horn situation, but she sounded like she was going to remain here. You could probably talk to her as soon as she comes out of fasttime." Beowulf nods to Morrigan. "Yes. He didn't have the information on how to produce an Abyss Engine -- it indicated that he would need an Abyss Master for that -- but everythign else could be reproduced from his plans." Beowulf asks, "Which reminds me... time is kind of tight at the moment, but Kanna mentioned you had some knowledge of the Abyss?" Lucien asks, "Does the Leviathan have the power to crack the Ice Dome?" Morrigan says, "That thing terrorized...yes, I have some knowledge of the Abyss." Beowulf nods. "I hope I can talk to you about it later, then; I found some information in the library that suggested it might be possible to free the Harad sisters from the control of the Queen of the Dead, but the only chance would be with the knowledge of someone skilled with the Abyss. Perhaps you could point me to someone who could help?" Morrigan says, "What is the Queen of the Dead?" Beowulf asks, "Ah. Um. How much have you heard about the invasion that's apparently coming up from the Land of the Dead?" Morrigan says, "I have no idea what you're talking about." Lucien blinks. "Land of the Dead?" Beowulf nods. "Right. Well, there have been prophecies suggesting that our universe will be invaded shortly from another universe, known as the Land of the Dead. It's a place where everyone in the universe is dead or some form of undead, all controlled by a being from the Abyss, known as Hel." Lucien shakes his head. "Does trouble never come in singles around here?" Morrigan says, "What sort of Abyss creature is she?" Beowulf describes Hel as he saw her in the throne room in Tir'na'nog. "I believe she's a Sanjiyan." ===== ===== Beowulf asks, "OOC Was there much else Bey could tell about her?" ===== ===== Lucien asks, "Saint Yen what?" ===== ===== Loewen says, "OOC Three eyed, uses the third eye to suck out people's souls and store them, has that universe's Jewel of Judgement in said Third Eye..." Loewen says, "OOC Those who get soul-munched become her zombie slaves." Beowulf OOCly gomens, didn't want to insult you by offering an explanation if you were already familiar with the term. o.o Loewen says, "OOC Loewen = John :)" Lucien OOC I'm familiar with the Sanjiyan, Lucien is not Beowulf says, "OOC didn't want to insult Lucien or Morrigan. ^_^ As he figures Morrigan probably is familiar with it." Lucien OOC Anyway.... Beowulf OOCly nods. ===== ===== Morrigan says, "Delightful. Creatures such as myself are immune to her powers, but the rest of you..." She frowns. "Although I suppose the Eye of Water would probably be sufficient to ward some area, at least for a while." Beowulf nods. "And I've heard someone with sufficient skill at Pattern or Logrus could also hold her off for a while. Though since Hel apparently has her universe's version of the Jewel of Judgement embedded in her third eye, I suspect it wouldn't be for very long." Beowulf says, "In any event, she has that universe's version of the Children of the Elements under her direct control, and leading her armies. Each armed with their Icon, a Patternblade, and a spikard." Kitiara says, "Is it just me, or does that sound fairly hideous?" Beowulf shudders slightly. "It's not just you. Which is why I was hoping to reduce their threat by breaking Hel's control over them." Lucien shrugs. "But they're Shadows of the Real thing. They can't stand against us, can they?" Beowulf says, "They inhabit an entire other universe; one with its own Primal Pattern, its own Unicorn, Amber, Tir'na'nog, and presumably Ember and Rebma. I accidentally crossed over into their Tir'na'nog while I was walking in our own Tir'na'nog, a week or so ago." Morrigan says, "Well, the Jewel complicates matters. The powers of the Sanjiyan involve replacing the victim's soul with an Abyssal Soul they control. Normally, a sufficiently skillful student of Abyss powers could remove the Abyssal Soul. Wresting the original soul back...and finding a student of the Abyss who is not a raving, flesh-eating would be world destroying freak is another question." Lucien asks, "If we restore the Water Pattern, would this keep them out?" Beowulf looks thoughtful for a moment. Morrigan says, "I think it would make a cross-dimensional invasion much more difficult for them." Beowulf nods. "It would probably help." Lucien sighs. "How much time do we have before Hel invades?" ==== ==== Beowulf asks, "OOC About a month, right?" Loewen says, "OOC Yep" ==== ==== Beowulf says, "About a month, I believe." Lucien says, "Then we have a month to retake Rebma, or redraw the Water Pattern elsewhere." Beowulf says, "One other thing I saw that disturbed me... I saw that other universe's version of Queen Corrine -- one of the strongest Trump-skilled people of her generation -- working on a series of landscapes there. When I cross-checked them with Queen Corrine, she said they represented isolated places close to important targets -- ideal spots for invasion." Beowulf says, "So I don't think we can count Trump out in this invasion, either." Beowulf nods to Lucien. "Yes. That could be very important." Kitiara says, "But how can they make trumps of anything here unless they get here first?" Lucien looks at his magical map. We'll have to set out to get the Leviathan sooner than I thought. Beowulf says, "I don't know. However, the pieces fit too well for me to think of it as a coincidence." Lucien says, "Thank you, Beowulf. I will contact Lian as soon as possible. In the meantime, I need to tell King Tylor and Miwa that things have to move up" Beowulf nods. "Yes. And I need to get to Chaos, so we can break the Serpent's Horn and rescue the family memebers they've kidnapped." Lucien shakes his head. "I need more mages, but I'm damned if I know where to find them." Lucien is more talking to himself than Beowulf. Pirotase says, "Well, if we returned to my homeworld and liberated it, there are many mages to be found there." Beowulf says, "Well, from what I can tell about Lethevian, it should be able to break the dome all by its lonesome; it was designed to level Rebma itself." Beowulf says, "I know of a shadow with some very strong and brave fighters, though they're rather individualistic..." He hmms in thought for a moment. Beowulf snaps his fingers. "Of course. Mystara." Lucien blinks. "Mystara?" Beowulf says, "There's a shadow named Mystara that has some very good mages; there's a nation there, Glantri, entirely devoted to producing mages." Pirotase says softly, "Lodoss has long suffered under the yoke of the invaders I was fleeing when I met you." Beowulf says, "And another one called Alphatia that's ruled by a council of one thousand mages." Lucien says, "Time... time is our enemy..." Lucien says, "We'll get the Leviathan, then see if we can use it to visit some other worlds and recruit... if we have time." He looks at Pirotase. "And save Lodoss if we can." Beowulf nods. "There's never enough time. There's also three Outsider Herald candidates we have to take down before the invasion, and Grandmother Anthy... well, I'm worried about where she may have gone, and hope we won't have to organize a rescue attempt, but the possibility's there." Lucien says, "I must concentrate on Rebma and restoring the Water Pattern. Leave that to me. It will be done." Beowulf nods. "Good." He chuckles wryly. "It seems like I've spent the last several weeks running around putting out fires. Hopefully things will settle down." Beowulf bows to Lucien. "Until we meet next time, cousin? Though the forces of Hel may lie between us, may we emerge victorious." ===== ===== Beowulf OOCly thwaps his spelling. x.x ===== ===== Lucien holds out his hand. "We will be victorious. Right is on our side." Beowulf takes his hand and shakes it firmly. "Indeed. May the Unicorn be with you." Beowulf says, "And may the Narwhale guide you safely through treacherous waters." Lucien smiles. "The Narwhale would make a better name than Leviathan, don't you think?" Beowulf grins. "Indeed. Though make sure it's cleaned out first." Lucien says, "Until swords part, Beaowulf." Beowulf says, "Take care, Lucien." Beowulf bows to the three ladies, and heads out of the vaults. ======================= ======================= Beowulf asks, "OOC And that scene's a wrap?" Loewen asks, "OOC Yep. What are you going to do next, Beo?" Beowulf asks, "OOC Can we assume that he's completed his shadow spikards by this point?" Loewen says, "OOC Yes." Beowulf OOCly nods. "Probably *quickly* drop by and see if great-grandfather Fuyutsuki has a moment to talk about Justice's history, then trump down to Yig to get in touch with the Chaos team." Lucien OOC Night! Beowulf exclaims, "OOC Sleep well, Jeff!" Autolyca has disconnected. Okay, we can gloss you talking to Fuyutsuki, as you have good stuff, and you already know the story, although your char doesn't. Fuyutsuki sits you down and tells you the whole story Beowulf OOCly nods, although he misses the chance to RP talking to Fuy for the first time. ^_^ Loewen says, "OOC I thought you had talked to him before." Beowulf says, "OOC Not RP'ed, nope, IIRC." Loewen says, "OOC Well, we'll save it for some time when he's going to say stuff we dont' both already know :)" Beowulf OOCly nods. :) Loewen says, "OOC Alrighty, I should hook you up with them in just a minute." Beowulf OOCly nods. Travis Butler tbutler@birch.net ...Cats are the proof of a higher purpose to the universe.
