From tbutler@birch.net Sat Jun 2 02:08:00 2001 Date: Sat, 2 Jun 2001 00:44:41 -0500 From: Travis Butler To: Philip J. Moyer Subject: Corrine Log Could we do the Corrine bit in private? As I would like to make Kyoko a bit of a surprise. :) Okay, we can page it; I'm using the Privacy chamber right now :) Ah. :) All right... Beowulf trumps Corrine. "Your Majesty?" he says with a smile. "Do you have a few minutes?" She nods. "Certainly, nephew." Beowulf says, "I was wondering if you could give me some advice on trump and on construct creation." She nods. "Certainly. You might wish to consult with Gabrielle as well, since she is herself a trump construct." He smiles slightly. "Yes, I know... still, I was hoping to surprise her with a new friend." "Be warned...having a child is more complex than you might think." Beowulf says, "I admit, when I first thought up the idea, I was hoping to make a construct that could act as a peacemaker among the other constructs; Morgenstern and Gabrielle had the strong rivalry, before Morgenstern was damaged, and the personality template I had in mind is used to dealing with people who quarrel like that. Corrine nods. "What are you thinking of?" Beowulf looks serious. "I understand. I hope that I could be a good relative... somehow, I'd have trouble thinking of her as a child of mine, more of a younger cousin or sibling. Beowulf smiles slightly. "I was thinking of Kyoko, from the anime series Maison Ikkoku." Corrine nods. "Interesting choice." Beowulf raises an eyebrow inquiringly. "You know Gabrielle better than any of us..." He smiles. "Do you think they'd get along?" "Gabby tends to like passionate people best, but as long as she doesn't start talking about the virtues of water..." Corrine laughs. "Which must give her and Nagisa some interesting discussions." Beowulf grins. "Oh, I can imagine. Well, they do say opposites attract... and they do make a lovely couple." He smiles. "And yes, Kyoko could be quite emotional at times. But she also seemed to do a good job of running the boarding house... and anyone who could put up with a group like the Loon Squad ought to be able to keep Morganstern in line. Corrine nods. "I warn you that sentient constructs are so complex, you will likely find yourself with more than you bargained for." Beowulf nods. "I understand. I suppose, though... Well, I wouldn't want to make a slave; I'd want to make a friend. And to be a friend, they'd have to be a person, with their own independence of thought and behavior." Beowulf asks, "I suppose the real question is whether they'd be likely to cause trouble for those I care about. "Like any child, it's all in how you raise them. Poor Morgenstern never really got the support he needed and came out rather deranged as a result." She sighs. "But it's hard to foresee the future." "I had been planning on asking Lily and Mutsumi to help me build her... they're probably the two people I care the most for, and I think they'd both give her a pretty stable start. Is there anyone else you'd recommend to help? She says, "I think you'd be in good hands with them. And perhaps your mother. She's always been very gentle and kind." He nods. "That's a very good idea. She's always done well by me." "She is your mother. :)" Beowulf nods. "Exactly." He smiles. "I was planning on building it around a trump fount I had in a shadow I've found, but I'd like to do a closer examination of it first. Mutsumi's pretty skilled with trump, isn't she? Corrine nods. "Mutsumi-chan is quite ingenious." "Is there anything you can think of that she should look for in examining the fount? Or anyone else you'd suggest I bring in? She says, "Well, Miki, perhaps." Beowulf nods. "That's the other person I was thinking of. You'd be the perfect person to do it, but you're probably otherwise occupied." He smiles. She then explains a lot of things which fly WAY over your head due to lack of trump knowledge. Beowulf rubs his head and looks puzzled. "Ah, right. Perhaps if I could ask Mutsumi-chan or Miki to talk to you about these things, because I'm afraid I understood perhaps one word in three." She looks apologetic and nods. Beowulf smiles ruefully. "Thank you for understanding; I'm afraid I'm not Trump-skilled on that level." Beowulf bows. "Any other suggestions you might make, besides raising her with love? "Make sure her power source isn't tainted or unbalanced. As the source of power heavily influences personality." He nods. "I certainly plan on it. The trump fount... well, so far, the main thing I know about it is that it brings in Golden Age radio shows, and other movies/etc. from that era, from across shadow. The shadow it resides in has places like Rick's Bar from Casablanca, and George and Gracie. She nods. "You might find it easier to give her a persona which matches that era." He looks thoughtful for a moment. "Hmmm. I suppose you're right... I'd expected that to color her personality some, but I was thinking she'd be a Kyoko with an interest in classic radio." He ponders who some appropriate people from that era might be. She nods and will think on it. Beowulf muses out loud. "Someone that would get along well with Gabrielle and Morganstern... which, knowing their musical tastes, means I probably would want to go with someone who wasn't a musician of the time." She nods. "Yes." OOC And I'm having trouble thinking of a personality from that era, other than the Shadow and George and Gracie. At least one I'm familiar enough with to want as a construct/friend. The idea of a George Burns construct makes me laugh. :) OOC Heh. Might be something to think about, though I don't know how well he'd get along with Morgy. ^_^ OOC There's also Abbot and Costello, but that doesn't even bear thinking about. ^_^ Oh, GBurns got along with everyone :) You're an evil man. :) I have a sudden image of an Art Linkletter construct running the 'Amberites are funny' show :) The_Prof throttles John. "ARgle. o.O Hm. Movies of the time... there's... argh, can't remember the names of the pair, but the dancing duo. Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire Ah, right. Unfortunately, don't know either of 'em well enough. There's Jack Benny... no. :) HEH. And Lucille Ball is *definitely* out. ^_^ I go sleep; I'm zonked. Good 'nuff.
