We have introduced mutations into a variety of sample tissue cultures from plant, animal, and human subjects. In time, we should be able to trigger radical metabolic changes and structural changes within the cells. Already cellular function can now be enhanced, supressed, or terminated at will. Dr. Cavendish believes that perhaps we may even be able to trigger extensive morphological changes throughout an entire test subject according to biological, chemical, and environmental stimuli if a suitable virus is developed. Our next step is to devise a method to deliver the new pharmecuticals through airborne vectors, as well as developing a way to neutralize and/or innoculate against the toxin/virii effects via antidotes. --- Holmehurst === From: giri@sword.hvn To: ian@lightning.hvn Date: 2071.04/05 Subject: Host Personnel Aboard Citidas Ian: I have spent some time researching those of the Host currently aboard Station Citidas, and have managed to uncover two known Roles aboard the station other than your own. Those are: Bedsodeiah, Power of the Sword; Role Father Benjamin Deitrich, stationed on Citidas Irpeel, Intercessor of Flowers; Role Doctor Penny Anderson, Citidas Medical Personnel If there are any other agents on board, I will let you know as possible. Some of them may be deep cover, so I advise you to take this in account and contact only as Role allows, and that rarely. I have also notified at least a couple high-ranking Servitors of the Sword as to the possible incursion by the Void on board Citidas. Chamael, King of Mars, and Gediel, Throne of Altitudes, are now aware of your situation and will do what they can to take this into account. Through them I have had contact with Kafziel, Most Holy of Saturn, who was enormous help in locating the above Roles, though Citidas is still new enough it is not yet in the Records of the Sword. I am also certain that the Lord Commander will find this of great interest and take appropriate measures as he has time and ability to. If you have any other questions or concerns, let me know as you can. He has no firm proof, but there have been numerous Disturbances not of his doing that he has experienced, and the quality of those Disturbances seem to very much suggest the Void, or possibly Nightmares, in their sense of emptiness and fear. I have gone to measures to locate for him a list of others of the Host stationed out on Citidas, but it's strongly felt given the quality and the quantity of most of the reported Disturbances that there are more celestials than our side there. My greatest concern is the potential for Infernal Tether formation--this is *not* something that is tatically affordable for the Host that far out in the solar system. I have informed Chamael, King of Mars, Gediel, Throne of Altitudes, and they have in turn done so for Kafziel, Most Holy of Saturn, but it seemed greatly mete for me to do so for you as well, my Lord, in the case they were not able to as yet. I am also very concerned for the welfare of those angels also stationed there, not least of which that of Bedsodeiah, your Servitor and my Brother in service. I will inform you of any changes or updates in the situation as applicable, Lord Commander. Well, we've got a great security force, but we definitely need more and better computer people around this place. Some idiot hacked into the TriOp network last night from Earth via our Internet Gamma link and tried to lift some files out of the Citidas database. Fortunately SHODAN spotted him and TriOp's security in New Atlanta caught the twit. Doesn't look like he had a chance to swipe any files or do any damage, but SHODAN is going over all systems with a fine-tooth comb just to make sure. *sigh* The fun never ends sometimes. Catch you later. --Bri. <<<***ARASAKA DECRYPT***>>> As far as -I- can tell, this hack was an inside job; TriOp no doubt has their share of disgruntled employees given the politics... and the character of the people in charge. I could be wrong, but TriOp is pretty recent on the scene, and some of their workers could be protesting the mergers in their own special way. That said, -do- we have any moles trying to hack the database? If there are any let me know so I can at least try and coordinate with them. From what the tech-heads are saying, it sounds like the guy made some serious inroads into the network before SHODAN caught him. Too bad; his knowhow might be useful. I'll try and keep an eye on him via reports if I can. Well, I was hanging out with the stiffs down in the vault, like I always do, when the Symphony started ringin' something fierce. I ran to go check, and there was one of the assistant doctors ... and she'd just finished off a -Song of Healing- on one of the unconcious patients (I think he was the one whose legs had gotten crushed by a dropped load from a maint-bot). I don't beleive it. We've got a damn -angel- running around in Medical. It's the only explination... and with the amount of potted plants around and in her office, I'd have to say she's one of Novalis's flowerbitches. We aren't gonna be able to let this slide, guys... she's promoting (ugh) -life-, of all things. Now, Balak, I know you'd like to tear her a new one, and Zoblink, you quite frankly don't care, but I think I've got a better option. She's a long way from home. She's got nobody she can call on. There's a lot more of us than there is of her. Let's make her Fall. She thinks he -will- be able to walk again, but of course he's going to be out of it for a long time. *sigh* Just another long day in the life of a station security officer. How I wish the nights could be spent in your arms and not alone in a military bed. I'll try and ask about some shore leave sometime soon. XXOOXX -Bri. <<<***LIGHTNING DECRYPTION***>>> I don't think he knew I was watching him, but that Harlan Masters fellow was there when that 'bot broke down, watching. He was enjoying that little mishap far too much. And there's a few too many repair orders being directed toward his quarters for my taste. Too much Destruction, with a capital D. But Technology and Destruction do not mix... so who is he working for? I'm a little worried about Penny -- or should I say Irpeel -- too. After I brought that worker in, she knit him back together with a Song of Healing. The Symphony reacted, of course, but that wasn't the problem... the problem was, I could hear a rotten note in her voice. I don't know how Dissonant she is and I can't ask without drawing too much attention to myself. I'm -quite- sure Masters -- or whatever his name really is -- has everything to do with this, but again I can't do a damn thing about it. *sigh* Damn, I need to get away from here for a while. I'm very glad that at least the poor guy wasn't killed. And glad he's being taken care of as much as they can. More encouraging news, though. I just got back from California and am in the process of removing Interview Torture Regalia (pity you're not here to watch ;) ). It went *great*. Ms. Taggert (the Triop Program Designer, who interviewed me) said she'd never seen anybody do so well on the coding tests as I have in a long time, which is *really* encouraging. More so since apparently the competition for internships, especially at Citidas, is red-hot, so I'll need all the help I can get. We hit it off though, so that and the above as well as my resume should all be very strong points in my favor. I hope I can hear back in a couple weeks, a month at most, about what the scoop is. Then...hopefully...I can make the shore leave moot. And that you get your quota of hugs. Take care, sweetie. All my love, Tina <<<***LIGHTNING DECRYPTION***>>> (Tippy shivers a bit) This is not good. This is very not good. This, in fact, is definitely making all my Hellborn Sensors go ping in loud screechy tones, Ian. You're right, this Masters guy is very not good news. Word needs to get to Boss ASAP, because if he's got buddies....what kind are they, if he's the Destructive type? I don't want to have happen to you again what happened before to you, and Valanna. And if they're not Technology...Time to hit the files. The bit with Penny is also really worrisome...has she been in contact with her Mom recently? I could maybe drop a line to her, I hope, though I know her scheduler is pretty darn full. But this is important, I think. You guys apparently aren't in the frying pan, you're in the fire. And I'm pretty sure that's something neither Boss nor the Momma bargained for. And if you don't know how sour she's gone... Dammit. I feel so helpless. I'll bust my butt to do what I can over here, and hope it works. And hope something comes of the interview, so maybe Boss can sneak me an' some company over to Citidas to back you up... (Tau is all in favor of this plan. The little bastard's been reading my mail, but at least he's a *worried* eavesdropper. ) And...a little something I couldn't mention on the above part. I had the interview in Taggert's office, which, true to form, had mountains of printouts in it. While waiting for her to return after I smoked the test...I noted coding on the printouts on top that look a whole *heck* of a lot like the stuff that was pirated from the ACT in that one hacking attempt, studentile cruft and all. It was a bit of a shock...but not an entirely complete one, given things. I'm 99 percent Taggert herself is innocent, because it's been long enough for the stuff to sift to her office without her having ever been involved. This is even ignoring the fact she was griping about the sloppiness of the coding, and the fact that I resonated her pretty darn deeply, and I got Needs to get the coders to code cleanly...and find out how on earth some of the stuff integrated into SHODAN got *this* advanced all of a sudden. Gosh, I have a feeling she'd be livid if she found out some of the possible real sources, too, hon... And I'd just loooooove to help her find the sleazeball in TriOp that's actually coordinating the theft of all this stuff if she did. Until then...take care. I miss you, and most of all, I love you. It is refreshing to work with a human who has his priorities straight-- the progression of pure science without moralistic taint-- but his vision is still too limited. He has ordered a blackout of information and suspension of the projects while he manages some mortal repercussions, a clear sign of weakness on his part. I and my team continue our experiments unconcerned; our security measures in the system and the encodings of our records within the computers of the station will easily withstand any human attempt to break through them. As for the experiments themselves, we have begun differentiation of cell structures from basal cells treated with the virus strains, coaxing them into new, adaptative forms. Several experiments focus on the improvement of organizational cellular structures from single-celled creatures to multiple-celled creatures. Others focus on improving the internal and external structures of various plant and animal species, combining them into new organisims created by pure science. Before the summer is completed, we hope to apply these strains to human test subjects. There is also the possiblity that with enough engineering, these cultures will be able to be used against celestial vessels, Science willing.
